Cone from last year team ore twelve seniors. Ten of these young men are now playing college ball. Last year's team had a record of 15 wins and 7 losses. They finished second in the N.W.C. If the '73 baseball Troopers are going to equal last sea- sons' record, the remaining five lettermen and the inex- perienced newcomers will need to be especially dedi- cated. Most of the responsibility for the success of this year's team will rest on the shoulder of pitchers jack Sauer and Buddy Titak. Team defense and speed will also be factors in the total success of the season. 68 Iolm Owens ,Why GOLF This year's golf team started out with only three returning let- termen, all seniors. At the end of the 4th quarter the score was tied up 52-52 forcing the game into overtime. However the Warriors came out on top with a score of 64-59. High scorer for the Troopers was Randy Branson with 18 points. Bob Maurer and john Andreachi contributed ten points apiece. On 30, 1973 the Troopers defeated Lowell's Red Devilis 54-53. High scorer was Randy Branson with 13 points and Maurer with 10. How- ever we also forfeited this victory. River Forest was our highest scoring game of the season with Wirt losing by only 9 points with a score of 102-93. Randy Branson accounted for 32 points, Iolm Andreachi had 15 points, jack Saurer 14, and Bob Maurer 12. Dining the fo1u'th quarter alone, the Troopers accumulated 32 points. Coach Mickey Sofiak expects a better season next year because he is losing only two lettermen. Don Pilzer and Bob Maurer plan to attend college next year. The flowers were pinned on the girls with great care, in hopes of not wilting, they just wouldn't dare. The couples were dancing all over the floor. Good music was playing. Oh, never a bore. . And she in her gown, and he in his suit, they just took their pictures. Werenit they so cute. When up on the platform there rose a great sound. Sentimental music caused young hearts to pound. Away to refreshments they flew like a flash. Popped open a Pepsi, not batting a lash. TWAS THE NIGHT XMAS we . or l N a 2, on XI W The moon on the crest of the sand dunes and snow, gave a shimmering luster to the water below. A d h . . . . n w at to my wondering eyes should appear? A miniature bottle and eight cans of beer. The little old sponsores were lively and quick, in hopes of assisting the kids who were sick. The girls at the restaurant ate more than their share. Their appetites were greedy. The boys paid the fare! The submarine races after the meal caused waves in the lake . . . Oddly unreal. The Snowball was grand to each one's delight. The dance after Xmas bestowed a good night. By Laura Sue Hart Once again, the Snowball was held at the Pavilion. Sev- eral precedents were set this year. Number one, this is the first year that the Snowball was held on a Tuesday and after Christmas. Another first for Wirt was the fact that no princi- pals showed up. Also, the security officers had a feel', day with the staggering men. It was reported that Mr. Nowak had a busy night cleaning the johns. The general chairman this year was Sophie Stergos. The other chairmen were, Programs, Sue Hart, Decorations, Ka- ren Konkle, Chaperones, Kim Beckham, Servers, Linda Liv- ingston, Entertainment, Derla Gross, Publicity, Ann Ray, and Pam Mustafa on Refreshments. R For the first time in history, Wirt High School has its own private army. Under the leadership of Sgt. Berger, the junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps was started this year at Wirt. This program was open to both boys and girls. Colonel Budlove, R.0. presented the unit with its first sabre, its first flag, and its first colors. Mr. Barack and Sgt. Berger accepted the gifts for the school. The R.0.T.C. raised and lowered the flag each day and helped maintain order at ath- letic events. R.0.T-C- TOP Rows Dennis Be3mOO, Dan Maxwell, Dave R.O.T.C.
