Depth In Literary Development Having returned from Harvard where he was studying on a John Hay Fellowship, Mr. William Morris reattained the chairmanship of the English department at Wirt. Under his direction, the English teachers worked toward another rewarding year. In the senior classes, the emphasis was on classic plays such as Macbeth and advanced composition work. Once more, the juniors' teachers helped to make a term paper a reality. Under the direction of well-prepared instructors the sophomores found the topics of Silas Marner and Julius Caesar had rounded off the better part of their first year. Guiding the freshmen along through their first year, teachers imposed the importance of analyzing a novel in their keen exploration of Great Expectations. The Troopers had no trouble in finding bits of information in our spacious, modern library. Mrs. Mary Oppman, assisted by Mr. Richard Scheub, kept it stocked with all available, up to date literary materials. Aiding in our eagerness to learn was a very efficient audio-visual department, headed by Mr. Scheub. It provided a variety of film strips, tapes, and movies for both teachers and students.
