Symbolism Mr. Wayne Connaway, who has recently returned from teaching in Germany, shares one of his many experiences with Advanced English students. Mrs. Peggy Czimer As a means of proper communication and thoughtful expression, the English language has been an interesting subject at Wirt. While being introduced to poetry and American short stories, junior high schoolers gained prospective for future studies. Freshmen, eyes glued to the dynamic words of Dickens, later sampled beginning compositions. “Reading between the lines’’ materialized as sophomores discovered literary depth and symbolism. After struggling with the classics and a research paper, juniors were prepared for the final study in English. Advanced senior students concentrated on stylism and the “oh-so” thick text, while other scholars surveyed the literature of the world. Perhaps without the use of the new library, none of these studies could have been complete. Luxurious facilities, an able staff and enormous space provided conditions conducive to learning. The audio-visual department presented film strips, tapes and movies “to enact the written word. Using these educational aids. Troopers were inspired to probe their common culture. Mrs. Mary Oppman, librarian, organizes the library materials center while Mr. Richard Scheub, audio-visual coordinator, traces the whereabouts of a missing piece of equipment. 26
