SITTING: Joseph Lucky-Vice President. Reverand J. Claude Allen-Secretary. The Board of Education has a greater responsibility than many of us realize. First, they make the policy which the Gary schools must follow. This is a difficult job because all of the schools must be as well satisfied as possible. They also hire all teachers and approve their wages. The budget of the school system must be approved by the board, too. We wish to thank the Board of Education for the wonderful job they always do. If it were not for their superb work and understanding, we could not be as proud 4 of our school and town as we are. ‘D'tiven We appreciate the guidance of our principal Mr. Russell O. Bohn who has driven us safely through our four years of high school. Mr. Bohn is a graduate of the University of Illinois, and Indiana State Teachers college. He received his masters degree from Indiana University . After teaching in five Gary schools, Mr. Bohn came to Wirt in 1948. 6 Wk O cce Statf Mrs. Johnson, Bookkeeper; Mrs. Englert and Mrs. Glover, Secretaries. Vice-Pres.; Albert Dec, Sec. NOT PICTURED: Dick Sikora, Treas. We jogged along through our freshman year over rough and winding roads. This was the beginning of our high school journey. We stopped only to give the Halloween Dance and the St. Patrick's Day Dance, which were both successes. We saw our new reserve cheerleaders Sally, Sharon, and Roseanne along the way and stopped to pick them up. The following September, we were well on our way chugging up the hill of our sophomore year. We were especially proud of two of our passengers, Emery, who made Honorable Mention all-Conference, and Sharon, who was Homecoming Attendant. Mrs. Wendt and Miss Labb, our register teachers, helped us with our third dance, The Snowball. We climbed to the top of our junior year and celebrated by getting our new class rings. The magazine drive was a success with Jean as our chairman. The two social events of the year were the King and Queen Dance and the Senior Farewell. Continuing on our way we almost forgot to pick up Sally and Sharon who were our Homecoming Attendants . We were honored by having Jack and Tom make the All-Conference Football Team and Eric, who made the All-Conference Basketball Team, as our passengers. Coasting downhill in our new car, our senior year was something we'll never forget. We were glad to have Sally with us on our ride since she was Homecoming Queen. By this time the year was half over, we had stopped several times for our class pictures and graduation cards. This caused quite a bit of confussion but just added to the happy festivities of the year. We speeded along through the Senior Banquet, and we had a wonderful time at the Prom. Realizing our grand ride was coming to an end on June 2nd. , most of us were rather sad. The class agreed we had had a wonderful time in our high school years, and we were eager to explore new highways ahead. ROBERT J. We were highly confident of an even more successful football year after playing a good game, and losing by a heart-breaking score of 7-6. Our motor ran down a little as we were plagued with numerous injuries. But we kept up our spirit and fought valiantly. We were in excellent form during the next game with an 18-6 victory over Dyer. At East Gary we tied the score, which was better than a loss. In the next game we sent Howe home with a 13-0 defeat. Our next four games were bitter defeats because of our increasing amount of injuries. This handicapped us from showing ourselves in our best form. In spite of this, the Troopers inspired us all with their fine fighting spirit in the face of tremendous odds. ‘1 anAiUf FIRST ROW; T. Hebert, J. Ballard, K. Sowachka, E. Cohn, L. Pavol, R. Cash, M. Each year a Homecoming Queen and her two attendants are elected. The football team chooses the girls after the student body nominates them.
