Monahan, J. Weiss, K. Cox. At the beginning of the school year, Willy and a group of his friends got together to put out a paper. Some of their predecessors had already named it the Shifting Sands (because it is written in their hang out, which is in the middle of a sand dune.) He and his friends were a little peeved, but that didn't bother Willy since he knew he would get better as time went on. In the month of October, the twenty-second and twenty-third, to be exact, Willy's guardian. Miss Armington, took him and some of his friends down to the convention, Indiana High School Press Association Convention at Franklin College, near Indianapolis. Everybody had a lot of fun and met some of the nicest people. They brought back a lot of new ideas to try to improve their paper to see if Willy's friends would like it any better. Along in November, his guardian, with the help of his friends, got him a new Smith-Corona typewriter with Gothic type to make it easier for him. After this surprise Willy really got down to work and the issues started to come out at more regular time periods. But still Willy didn't have a place to sleep, and without rest he couldn't do justice to both his school work and the paper. Finally his dad gave him one of the corners down in the school office where he could sleep and work in peace and quiet. In one of his new issues Willy got the idea of offering a chance for a prom bid by numbering each individual paper, drawing the number a couple of weeks before the prom. Guess who won!!! One of Willy's friends!!! By the end of the year Willy knew pretty much in the line of putting out a paper and it was really going good, but the time comes for all of us when we eventually receive our diplomas and go away from school on to better and harder things and new experiences. Kay Cox, Janet Laub, Jean Finerty, Marjory Brauer, Nancy Mettner, Dick Sikora, Lee Weis-iogel, Joe Penny, and A1 Dec were the new junior members. There was only one new senior member. He was Willie. A new plan was originated this year. A slip of paper is sent around to the teachers every grade period to check the members' standing. This way the student is informed if he or she is keeping up to standard. The year ended very successfully for the Honor Society. Willy and all the members hope that next year's will be just as successful.
