Shifting Sands After several years of comparative inactivity, the Shifting Sands was revived this year. The staff met every other day first hour and were able to publish a paper about twice a month. They were quite pressed for space, as the old office, where newspaper staff was held, was used by several other groups of persons. At first the paper was put out with office and typing room typewriters; and the commercial depart-men mimeograph machine. Later in the year, the staff was fortunate to have assistance from the Annual staff in buying a brand new mimeograph machine. The paper immediately began to look better. Shortly after this, the Board of Education loaned us a used typewriter and the staff was able to do most of its work without leaving the newspaper office. As a special project, the Shifting Sands staff took it upon themselves to publish a program and souvenir issue that was sold at the McVout Soiree. Mr. Bell entered 52 members in the District Contest at Emerson School in Gary. Out of the 52 that entered, 41 brought home medals. Out of these there were 3 who went to Indianapolis to compete in the State Contest. We were proud to hear that Charles Meyette won a first place medal and two others won second place medals. This spring, they plan to go to Holland, Michigan to play at the Annual Tulip Festival. The Seniors were honored by the band when the band played for their convocation and commencement. We would like to mention that 80 per cent of the band is grade school children and twenty per cent is high school students. We were all proud of the band this year and we hope they have as much success in the future as they have had in the past. INTERMEDIATE BAND FRONT ROW—J. Rose. B. Ballard. M. Lloyd. B. Fickenscher. G.
