We are living In momentous times. History is being made every day, and there are changes every- where. We are seeing changes at Willard . Our long-awaited swimming pool is nearing completion and should be ready by the first of July of this year. We are looking for- ward to the building of our new cafetorlum, library, classrooms, and offices . We have every hope of being able to use them by the open- ing of school in September, 1965 We anticipate many improve- ments in our educational procedures and processes and in the learning of our students • We are proud of the attain- ments of our students and of the consecrated efforts of our fine teachers. These are reflected in the quality of instruction and the awards granted to our students in such events as the Excellence in Youth Awards and the Science Fairs . I would like you to know a significant statement by Dr. Lyman V, Ginger of the National Education Association: To critics who have said that our schools are stressing quantity rather than quality, I wish to point out that with about 6% of the world ' s population, the United States has trained 21.6 % of the winners in the 57 year history of the Nobel Prize Awards. A great educator, Horace Marin, once said that the object of the common school system is to give every child a free, straight, solid pathway by which he can walk directly up from the ignorance of the in- fant to a knowledge of the primary duties of a man and can acquire a power and an invincible will to discharge them. To our Ninth Graders we would say we hope this has been your ex- perience in your three years at Willard. To our other students we would say, use every moment of your stay at Willard to gain every help your teachers and counselors can give you to obtain all the insights, knowledge, and understandings you can possibly attain.
