Girls ' Sports Despite the most commonly known fact that we tried hard, terrifically hard, the H-9 girls ' basketball game results never announced a victory, and ditto for the L-9 and H-8. But hurray for the L-8 — they came through with a tie! Baseball was fine, too. (Did I say too ?) I ' m happy to say that a good number of awards in the form of diamond, circle, and block Ws were given out. And thanks! Thanks to everyone for giving me the exciting experience of serving you as Girls ' Athletic Manager, and to Miss Parent and Mrs. Beeken, especially, for their help. Here ' s wishing an enthusiastic athletic program for Willard. It was fun, and thanks again. Janet Suzuki, Manager. Boys ' Sports Willard started off the sport season with a great bang, winning three out of four cham- pionships in volleyball, L-8, H-8, L-9. But we slowed up a little in basketball. Although the unlimited team looked very good they finished a strong second, led by David Garth, Steve Chandler, Pat Coll, and Victor Elischer. Burbank was first and Garfield third. This was the first time in ten years we failed to win a basketball championship. Softball and baseball are off to a good start. We have five baseball and two softball groups. All boys interested in track are looking forward to a wonderful Spring Day meet on May 20. Solomon Wheat, Athletic Manager. Block W Club ' Membership in the Block W Club is attained by earning points through the athletic program at Willard. This requires an outstanding effort on the part of the individual. The athletic points are accumulated from the seventh grade through the ninth grade. At present there are about 3 5 boys and girls in the Block W Club. The members of the Block W Club have the privilege of sponsoring the annual Bean Feed, ushering at the Sports Carnival, and formulating policy matters for the athletic program. We all hope that next year ' s members will have just as much fun as we had working under the supervision of Mr. Berry. John Roper.
