+ THE + CHIEF + INDIAN HISTORY Many, many years ago. an Indian tribe known as the Hurons roamed wild in this section. They interwove their trails through the forests near here and their hunting grounds covered the terri- tory of Willard and vicinity. They established a camp near where the Grange Hall now stands and a little west is a trail well known as an Indian trail to the Pioneers who are still living. The early settlers tell of much trouble encountered with the In- dians. There were a few who were friendly but most of the tribes were hostile and prepared for war. In 1819 two Indians were executed in Norwalk, Ohio, for committing murder. There was much excitement over this but nothing ever happened. In 1843 the Indians were removed from this part of the country to their reservation in the West.
