They interwove their trails through the forests near here and their hunting grounds covered the terri- tory of Willard and vicinity. They established a camp near where the Grange Hall now stands and a little west is a trail well known as an Indian trail to the Pioneers who are still living. The early settlers tell of much trouble encountered with the In- dians. There were a few who were friendly but most of the tribes were hostile and prepared for war. In 1819 two Indians were executed in Norwalk, Ohio, for committing murder. There was much excitement over this but nothing ever happened. In 1843 the Indians were removed from this part of the country to their reservation in the West. This greatly relieved the dread entertained by the early settlers. ff ,ff f' IP ilk A 4 np 7 ps r Mfy fqgfpgfg 252. Elizabeth and Bill on their honeymoon Welch's voice to the listening throng Over the microphone announces a song By one we love and delight to hear, Madame Kovasckitz, to us so dear. A second, please. while the mystic ball Reveals to me the Senate's Hall Where Gordon Wolfe and Mason Doan Are expounding on the farmer's loan. Unabashed they talk their best For in the president's chair sits Richard West. High above in the ethereal dome Paul Tompkins flies very much at home. Amelia and Elsie Dawson capable grangers Are traveling about amid rural strangers Instructing the housewives on the farm By giving lectures with grace and charm. Elsie Russel, a hostess is she. On the veranda serving tea To Marjorie and Iva and Alice Brown. Who as style designers have gained renown. Within the crystal long concealed . Are the Misses Eitle and Beamer's future revealed Instructing the youth in the method's quick To 'readin' and 'ritin' and 'rithmetic'. A Howard, a musician and leader so grand In uniform directs the U. S. Marine Band. And as it pauses, Admiral McElfish appears Announcing his speech World Disarmament Nears. The crystal grows dark! What can it mean? For the fates of all I have not seen. As. The News building breaks thro the gloom I find myself in the composing room. Editor Mathews and staff to action spring - As reporters Adams and Williams great news bring To Lillian and Carmyn the copy is sped. Who prepare the type and the presses are fed. Russel, the pressman.-with paper in hands These startling headlines eagerly scans, Scientists, Lewis and Greer, after years fulfill Their life long desire to make magic pill! And further perusing, he learns with surprise That this pill when administered makes youth very wise He acquires without effort of mind or will Complete knowledge of any subject you wish to instill. After listening intent and standing aghast Thomas rushes forth the news to broadcast. Slowly the crystal grows clear As I leave with a tear Of joy, for the fates, Of my fellow classmates. 7 I .' . 5 - T3 7 r'- - 3 . !'i4':f.. if 7 ' ipfg lgifkgf BQ X '., 1 y 1 . J T 4 1.. f l . 'rirkff u 7--.inrlx -1 A f g Fifty-Two ,lg-ff--f -l' -- INTRODUCTION TO PHYSICAL EDUCATION + THE + CHIEF + OUTLINE OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION The Physical Education Department for Girls is new with this school year. There is a vital need of stimulating in girls the love of free and vigorous athletic activities so that they shall be less frail and better able to meet the emergencies of life. It is this interpretation of the need of Girls Physical Education that guides our Department. It is vigorous play taught to girls that leads to self- confidence, control and coordination of muscle, and a general energizing of the whole system. The development of leadership, initiative and self-confidence in the girls who are to have the tremendously increased responsibilities that women must carry in another generation is surely of vast importance. If they can be encouraged to think, judge and act on their own responsibility. they gain an asset that should prove of great future value. In attempting to introduce a program it was kept in mind that the plan would be entirely in the nature of an experiment. The sports were chosen arbitrarily, and are in the process of being thoroughly tried out this year. The sports are intramural and are run interclass. managed by the four class managers who are selected by the girls in each class., The members of the Girls' Varsity Basketball Team were given extra. points this year. This is the Point System drafted for use this year: Points to earn for Awards: 100 Points-fChampionshipj-Class Numeral. 600 Points-A 5-inch fancy block W. It admits only high school graduates and offers advanced courses of training. Its graduates are hold- ing fine positions all over the country. Many are drawing salaries for S5000 to 310,000 a year, while some are millionaires. Any Seniors interested in advanced courses of business training would have unusual opportunities at Oberlin, where they would study with others of their own age and education and where they would not be held back in classes with many who have had little or no high school training. It has been under its present management for nearly 50 years-one of the old. strong, well-equipped successful schools of business training. Its courses of training are far beyond the business college stage. A PERSONAL WORD TO WILLARD HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES For many years there has existed a close relationship between the Vfillard High School and the Oberlin School of Commerce. For years Willard High School graduates have been attending this school and many of them are now holding good positions throughout Northern Ohio. Several students from Willard are enrolled here this year and any members of the present Senior Class who may decide to come to Oberlin for their educa- tion will be given every opportunity for advancement. 5 f -I . 5 , 'N I fN v .J-f ' w',s,g.gf, xg! pt Jygytgppifif ., , 1.
