Living in two houses puts us in odd situations. People look at us and say, Oh yes, they need TWO housemothers to take care of them. And we are the only house on campus that has to clean two houses, mow two lawns, and defrost two refrigerators each week. This situation hasn't hurt our taste in men though, as Dexter Maust, our candi- date, was this year's .loe College, and we had two successful house dances, After Five and Edelweiss to prove it. Among other things this year we did pull together to win the W0men's Volleyball championship. Also we have several members working in major positions on the Collegian staff. A couple of open houses served to get everyone well acquainted. The main attraction at one was the all-knowing wisdom of the Ouija Board. The tall house dance, Shibui, was gay and teahousey in a true Japanese style. With the coming of the Monsoon this year, we discovered to our uncomfortable surprise that our roof leaked. This climatic condition produced some rather interesting results, as a rather large creek could be heard gurgling across the smoking room floor. The spring house dance was very special. Two serenades, one at Christmas and one in the spring, were greatly enjoyed, and the annual tea and open house honoring our housemother was a very successful event. Jumping rope and bike riding were familiar sights in front of Doney in the early spring evenings, and many parties after hours have made our year here a memorable one. Delta Theta of Kappa Sigma had its beginning this spring semester. Kappa Sigma began as a colony last fall with eight pledges. Chuck Eison served as pledge president. With the backing and fine help of Kappa Sigma Alumni, Delta Theta was established February, 1961. With Gary Simmons as Grand Master, Kappa Sigma has increased its number to seventeen members and pledges. Our fall house dance, Southern Holidays, was well received and our coast house dance was much lun. Hard worlc was the motto of the chapter, and it obviously paid off in many respects, including a slight shuffle in the scholarship rating on the campus. Beyond was the theme of our fall semester house dance, which proved to be an enjoyable evening for all who attended. The main social slate was completed with our spring house dance, Roaring Twenties, again a very successful dance. Other spring activities included Project Day, Alumni Banauet, Pinned and Engaged Banquet, and the beach trip.
