xmhhi On the morning of September 26, 1949, the doors of Willamette High were opened and the students began their first year in this new and mode ri building. The enrollment that first year was only 391. The school was built to accom- modate almost 4OO pupils with ten general classrooms, gymnasium, kitchen, shop, an extensive library and science facilities. Students came from surrounding and district schools which they at- tended before Willamette came into existance. X rogredd .xdf Ibwfiameffe As steps were taken toward ad- vancement, Willamette began to pro- gress. In 1950 a new wing consisting of six classrooms, two offices, a football turf and a modern caforiurn were added. In the summer of '52 a spacious girls gym was erected. During the spring and summer of '53 six new Junior high rooms, an office and a large modern art room were added to the new wing connecting the girls gym with the first wing. Willamette has progressed rapidly in size, spirit and strength. Before three o'clock the school buses begin pulling up in back of the caforiurn. . A I If , , f
