At its outset, only 39l were enrolled in this beautiful new school which consisted of l4 classrooms, an ade- quate office, extensive library, and spacious gym- nasium. Many of those who met together in the halls and classrooms, met for the first time. They came from all the surrounding schools which had claimed them before Willamette High came into being. From these first acquaintances came lasting friendships, and grew a spontaneous school spirit. fe. r-4,1 1 2 ...ft wmv ffumtw felt-:fi A Willamette High today The first year was basically one of organiza- tion, but from these first-steps has Willamette been built and continued to progress. ln l95O, due to increase of the enrollment to 457, a new wing consisting of 6 classrooms and 2 of- fices and a modern caforium were constructed. A badly needed football turf was also completed that year and was ready for use at the opening of the football season of l95l. A modern wing came next . l ' - . K-z- -C ln the summer of l952 the latest addition to the school was built, This was the beautiful new girls' gymnasium, Thus our alma mater now stands. Increasing to an enrollment of 550 in the present school year, Willamette has grown in size, spirit, and strength. Plans have already been made for an additional wing consisting ot six classrooms to be constructed in l953. As in the past, we all are confident that our school will continue to progress in every way through the years. Up she goes! The girls' gymnasium completed TOM POWERS Superintendent HAROLD MCABEE Assistant Superintendent administration . . lt is a distinct privilege and pleasure to bring friendly and sincere greetings to the students of Willamette High School. A good school must have the under- standing and support of the patrons, It most certainly requires o strong corps of teachers. Most important it has to have an intelligent, diligent and co- operative student body. The Willamette High School has been fortunate, for this highly succesful year indicates it has all of these. The school year l952-53 has been the best in the schools history. lt is for this reason I wish to commend you highly and express appreciation for your continuous and effective coopera- tion. Tam Powers, Superintendent Mr. McAbee came to Lane County School District 52 this fall from Cave Junction in southern Oregon to assume the position of assistant superinten- dent which was vacated by Marvin Smith last spring. Mr. McAbee has had experience in both elementary and secondary levels and at present is work- ing on his doctorate. The three-act play was something different in the way of plays for Willamette. The first act opens in the twentieth century in the home of a young engineer lust out of college. Through one of his mechanical devices, he is thrown back through the centuries to the time of King Arthur. From there on the fun really begins. The court pronounces him a monster and decides he is to be burned at the stake. By recalling ancient history our hero remembers there was an eclipse of the sun on that day he was to be burned and he decides with its help he'll run their little show. This he does most successfully. After a few mayor problems he is transported back to the twentieth century as ,XP-' quickly as he left it. After that game the team had many ups and downs as do most green teams. Dale Stautfer was the big scorer this year winding up in district and scoring 288 points throughout the season. Right behind him was Captain Lowell Slick who is one ot the best and fastest tloormen Willamette has ever seen. Returning next year are eight letter men and five of these were all starters this past season Don Dienes one of the most accurate shots in the district and the floor play of Ron Sustello will contribute to next year s team Also returning is John McCutcheon the boy who came through very nicely and has got an excellent hook Shot With this team coming back next year Willamette will better their 9 win l3 loss record of this year by a long way.
