Chrilsteiiseii, C: The Willamette team along with Junction City and Cot- tage Grove opened the season against Uni. Hi, Eugene, and St. Francis in the annual Jamboree. On September 14, the Wol- verines played their first league game at junction City, where the Tigers downed them 12-6. W'illamette played its first game at home against Lowell September 21 with Wil-Hi on top 32-6. On September 28, the W'arriors from Oakridge handed Willamette its second defeat with a 25-0 score. Drain came to Willamette on October S to give us our third defeat. On October ll, the Willamette and St. Francis squads fought 46 minutes of hard football before the Saints went over for a 6-0 victory. University High hoisted the Wil-Hi boys at civic stadium in a night game on October 19. The Uni. Hi eleven ran rough shod over the Wil-Hi boys. The W'olverines never really clicked, but they showed lots of spirit. The final score was S3-0. Willamette broke a four game losing streak at Elmira October 26. On November 3, the Wolverines played on their own turf and played a type of football that wins games as they walked over Siuslaw 13-6. The last game of the season was the traditional game with Junction City at the Wil-Hi turf which ended in a 6-6 tie. VARSITY Junction City 6-Wiillamette

FOOTBALL , COACH CLARK STOKES Clark Stokes, in his third year as head football coach, was faced with a rebuilding job as he lost a large number of his first and second squad from his championship team of last year. Clark was ably assisted in this job by Bill Burgher who has been playing professional baseball with Oklahoma City. The nucleus of the year's team was mostly first year mm who either had been playing for the junior high or hadn't gone out before at all. To their credit goes the fact that they were eager to learn and they worked hard. By the end of the season they had mastered their fundamentals and plays, won two games, and tied Junction City, who had beaten them earlier in the season. Returning from last year's squad to play their final year of outstanding football were: Lawrence Ford, Jerry Enyart, Gunnar Christiansen, Pat Carry, Bob Gilbert, and Bob Marxen. Also outstanding for his defensive ability to diagnose plays was Jim Martin. With this year as a rebuilding year, the followers of the team can look forward to next year as another good year for the Wolverines. , , gg, J 1 U
