i 9' 1? t ' OF 1952 Seated: Doris Jean King and Alive Doss. Standing: Bob Gilbert, Ray Jones' and Max Ross. The class of '52 was the first graduating class to complete three full years of high school at Willam- ette High. They started their sophomore year under the di- rection of Darwin Gillespie and Pauline Layne. In their junior year Mr. Gillespie was called into the service and Clarence Miller came to fill his place. Among the school traditions the senior class started the Clean-Up-Week, Senior Banquet and Alumni Danceg they also were the first to give a junior class play and their Junior-Senior Prom, Bali Hai will never be forgotten as it was the first prom to be presented in the new caforium. Some of their many activities for the year were: operating the candy store, a field trip to Salem, the Christmas Play, Senior Play Growing Pains, Senior Banquet and Alumni Dance, Class Day, Senior Luncheon, and a skip day in the spring. With boundless enthusiasm the seniors helped a great deal to build the spirit at Willamette. Fldred Glas- pey's orchestra furnished the music, Plans for the prom were started at the first of the year. General chairman was Betty -Io Bumguardner with Basil Scal- brin as eo-chairman. The committees were band, Joan Bondg refreshments, Carol Cillenwaterg coron- ation, jo Ella Lindley, decorations, Diane Sirotekg invitations, Yvonne Giles, and lighting, Allen Bernt- zen. This was all carried out under the leadersliip of Mr. Zimmerman and Mr. Hartung. The alumni, faculty, administration and parents were invited for the evening. A light buffet was served after the crowning of the queen. The big night.
