BASKETBALL Landing in the district cellar along with Cottage Grove with a record of three wms and seven de feats the Willamette basketball team managed only nine wins while suffering 13 setbacks throughout the season Forward Gunnar Christiansen was voted district all star again this year Making 1 O07 points in a three year playing career Gunnar is the second man ever to achieve this feat in Lane County Leroy Wacker fast breaking guard for Willamette made honorable mention Willamette with all its illness and injuries played very few games with all players What hurt the most was when Doug Mumme our pivot man fell and dislocated his shoulder during the Washington game of Portland series After losing Doug we lost our next two games and then upset Springfield 48 45 From then on it was the downward grade in tion City and Springfield downed us to put us out of the district tournament On February 8 Doug was back in the lineup to help us upset Uni High We tripped Oakridge in our last home game After forfeiting to Eugene due to the illness of the squad Willamette wound up the season by defeating Cot tage Grove 45 43 SEASON'S SUMMARY E I i - 0 i ' 1 U the district but winning over Oakridge 64-40. june- EARL VOSSEN COACH

JU 1011 VARSITY ' The B squad under the direction of Coach Leland Hufford, wound up with a season s record of six wins and fourteen losses. Although this season was not too successful in league standings it was good in building experience for next year. Two of the stand outs of the season were Mel Thompson an Lowell Slick.
