NEW 1 ROPER! Mr. Richard Cox came to us this year from Edison High to serve as principal. He played a very important role in the lives of everyone at Will Rogers, making major decisions everyday. He worked hard to help build school spirit and get everyone involved. Mr. Cox graduated from McAlester High School, and went on to The University of Tulsa, where he earned his Bachelor of Music Education degree and his Master of Educational Administration degree. He also did post-graduate work at TU. His first teaching job was at Clinton jr. High in 1955, where he taught instrumental music for three years. In 1958 he was offered an instrumental music position at the new Edison High School, where he originated Tulsa Public Schools ' first jazz band, which subsequently won many state and national music honors. After seven years, he moved from instrumental music instructor to class counselor at Edison. He served as counselor for four years, then he accepted the position of Assistant Principal. Finally, after eight years as Assistant Principal, he took on the job of Principal of Edison High School. In June of 1982, Mr. Cox was transferred to Will Rogers High School. Mr. Cox says he is very impressed by the school ' s history of pride and tradition, and he has found Rogers students and faculty to be very friendly. They welcomed him with warm smiles. Mr. Cox ' s major goal is to commit himself to helping keep up a good reputation for Rogers, and to give the students a positive attitude toward succeeding. He wants all Ropers to feel enthusiastic about their education and to join in extra curricular activities. Mr. Cox realizes that he cannot achieve these goals alone — he needs the help of the faculty and the student body, as well as the parents, and he is working to achieve this. He also hopes to improve Rogers ' academic standing. Mr. Cox is very proud to be a Roper and wants to be known as Rogers ' 1 fan! So far Ropers think that he is well on his way!
