AFS: FRED FENGER This year Rogers was glad to welcome AFS student Fred Fenger from Geneva, Switzerland. In Switzerland, German, French, and Italian are spoken and although Fred speaks a little of each language, he speaks French most often at home. In Geneva, Fred attends Ecole Superieure de Commerence (Superior School of Commerence.) Where students change classes in much the same way we do at Rogers except in Fred ' s school students have all the same people in every class. At Rogers, students have many electives while at Fred ' s school students are enrolled in a standard curriculum which does not offer electives. In the United States Fred lives with the Stangeby family. His host brother is Pat Stangeby who is a senior. When Fred started school at Rogers he soon learned about such Roper traditions as the spirit chain and Homecoming. His favorite classes at Roger ' s are drafting and French. Fred has many interests such as photography, bowling, chess, and skiing. Fred says he misses snow skiing (which is hard to do in Oklahoma where there are no real mountains and little snow!) Fred joined the AFS program and came to America because he saw a lot on T.V. about the United States and he was curious to learn about the people and the language first hand. Fred says that he has not seen a lot of the U.S. yet but what he has seen he likes and hopes to see more before he leaves in July. It is worth coming here since I ' m learning a new culture, a new way of life, and new people. I ' m sure that I have a lot to learn now and hope that people around will learn something too!
