Black Sabbath ' s Tony lommie BLACK SABBATH ' ' SB ' «f:Sir ' In Tulsa concerts were abundant this year and among the huge crowds a person was likely to find energetic Ropers enjoying themselves and the music. Concerts during the 78-79 season included such performers as Black Sabbath, R.E.O. Speedwagon, Rainbow featuring Ritchie Blackmore, Van Halen, Aerosmith, Ted Nugent, Journey, Styx, Foghat and B.T.O. Although most concerts were performed at either the Tulsa Civic Center on the Fairgrounds Pavillion, there were several special guest appearances made by other fine musicians including Johnny Winters, Arlo Guthrie, Nick Gilder, and Fleetwood Mac ' s Bob Welch at the Cain ' s Ballroom. Jackson Browne gave a charity concert at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center downtown for the prevention of nuclear power at Black Fox. Ropers, and all of Tulsa, seemed to have a craving for the concerts which were expertly put together, and they are hoping the next concert season will be up to their expectations. uead vocalist Steve Tyler entertains Aerosmith fans. 20

ROPERS CELEBRATE WILL ' S WEEK Terry Wells models his trophy. Kenny Dunlap and Jimmy Barton lead in the wagon race. arol Canfield threatens . And it ' s a direct hit! Last November the 5th was the 99th anniversary of Will Rogers birthday. As in the past Ropers celebrated the occasion with Will ' s Week. Will ' s Week was held October 30th through November the 4th. These dates allowed for Halloween and the annual Hale-Rogers football game to be held that same week. The calendar for the week was as follows. Monday: Finals for the Ping Pong tournament, which was won by Terry Wells. Tuesday: Tee-shirt Day, Wagon Races, and the Pie-throwing Contest. Wednesday: Dress-Up Day and Will ' s 99th Birthday Cake was presented to the faculty. Thursday: western Day, Roping and Horseshoe contests were held. Friday: Hex Hale Day and on this day all Rogers were to wear hats in order to Hex Hale. It must have worked because the Rogers football team upset the Rangers, 21-14. During Will ' s Week, Ropers, elected a senior boy and girl to the following positions: Most Intellectual — Stacy Spears and Mike Gabbert; Most Humorous — Donna Thomas and Charles Reilly: Most Athletic — Melissa Cleveland and David Hull; Friendliest — Tammy Townsend and Scott Sidwell. On Tuesday, October 31st, a Halloween jack-o-lantern contest was held. There were many entries but the winner of the contest was Mrs. Braizer ' s homeroom.
