i' at if if ll ll if ll When school opened in September, the entire student body and especially the seniors, anxiously awaited the announcement about the possibilities of a yearbook to record their activities of 1945 - 44. The announcement was made last year that no more editions of the Lariat could be published because of war shortages, how- ever, during the summer it was found that materials might be available for this year's book so the Yearbook staff and Publi- cations board were organized. The students rejoiced when it was definitely known that there would be a 1944 Lariat, and the seniors showed their eagerness when fifty per cent of the class made appointments for their pictures the first two days. In compiling this yearbook, we look back over a year which has been full of events, surprises, and expectations. The symbol V has a three-fold meaning for us this year, It is the symbol of victory for which we are anxiously awaiting, this is the fifth year of Will Rogeris existence, and this is our fifth edition of the Lariat. Will Rogers High School has made many contributions in hastening this Victory. Hundreds of our graduates have gone into the service and every week some of our boys are answering their country's call. We have backed up the men in the service with victory drives of all types, paper, scrap, tin, war stamps and bonds, and have gone over the top with them all. ln carrying out these small activities we have attempted to do our share in hastening Victory and bringing our boys home again.

The Statue of Liberty, which stands in New York Harbor, is a symbol of American freedom. So it is to Miss Liberty, who holds het torch high to guide our boys in their fight for the freedoms, that we dedicate this 1944 Lariat.
