Last year's seniors have already made their first step toward success. Today we are experiencing the joy of being with our fellow classmates. The aims we have established will lead to our future achievements. Tomorrow we will enter a world filled with challenges of the future. May the ambitions and desires of all graduates be fulfilled as they take their places in life. HE first graduating class left Will Rogers High School in May, l9-40. Of these three hundred thirty graduates a large number have entered the business world while others have gone on to college to further their education. The four hundred seniors of l941, in looking toward the future, have expressed their professional ambitions. Beside their Lariat pictures are listed the professions or occupa- tional fields in which they are chiefly interested. May these graduates go forth better equipped for the coming years because of the training they have received in Will Rogers High School. I I 0 0 6 0 9 0 OREWORD We have prepared this yearbook as an ambassador of good will, hoping that in future years it will help to recall memories of the happy hours spent inside the walls of Will Rogers High School. Among the graduates who have been our school friends we will find, in the future, people in all walks of life. No matter what their profession nor what goals they achieve, we are sure they will enjoy turning back through the pages of this book of friends and renewing old acquaintances. WAYNE SHELTON HE senior class of '41 dedicates this year's Lariat to all graduates of Will Rogers High School. Memories never to be forgotten by Will Rogers students are bound between these covers. The name Will Rogers alone gives us a strange feeling of joy and pride in our school. Add to this name the achieve- ments and experiences we have enjoyed in Will Rogers High School, and we have a rare treasure of memories for our future years. ' -CHARLES H. NEAL S we look forward to the future it has a different meaning for each of us. May Will Rogers High School and all who leave its walls for outer worlds reach a higher niche in each day of the coming years. Along whatever path your future years, may it bring success. -MARTHA TIIFFANY HROUGHOUT the year we have lived an active, happy life in Will Rogers ' High School. Daily routine, games, plays, the Round-up and other events have been included in our activities. The yearbook photographers have been on hand to make for us a record of these events so that in the future, as we look through the pages of this l94l Lariat, we will be reminded of our good times at Will Rogers. The memories connected with the pictures and snapshots of our friends will bring to us in the future the pleasant happenings of this school year. 'JOAN PRATE11 and MAIKY LOUISE WIILSON O the future seniors of tomorrow we, the graduating class of l94l, extend a wish for happiness and success. We hope that your years in Will Rogers High School will be as successful and enjoyable as our two years have been. Many wise and good traditions have been established by the graduating class of last year and the graduating class of this year and you, as the future graduates, have the same opportunity to establish worthwhile traditions. -KATHERINE KARNES OUND within these pages are many happy memories and the enthusiastic spirit of our school. In future years old friends can greet old friends once again by turning these leaves, which may by then be torn and faded but which will still bring back those happy, never-to-be-forgotten days when we were young. '-GLORIA STURGE E, the seniors, are preparing to climb higher rungs on the ladder of life, and step into the future of which we know nothing. As we do this we leave the underclassmen to carry on our ideas and traditions. We extend to the future graduating classes our best wishes and sincerest hopes for their success. -NATALEE BROWN S this, our last year in Will Rogers High School, draws to a close we depart- ing seniors leave with the hope that our great school will grow and become even greater in the future. To you who follow we leave the ideals and traditions we have started. We heartily wish you success. 'JANE JOHNSON BUILDING EXTERIOR Students of Will Rogers High School feel it an honor to attend a school named for one of Okla- homa's most outstanding and beloved citizens, our own Will Rogers. It is with a feeling of pride and humility that we. in our school, wish to uphold the name of the man who never met anyone he didn't like. In looking forward to becoming the future citizens of America. we find an added inspiration during our school years in the honesty and sin- cerity of such a citizen as Well Rogers. VVhcn the doors of Will Rogers High School swung open for the first time in September, 1939. there were three hundred fifty-nine seniors. five hundred twenty-four juniors, and six hundred eighteen sophomores enrolled. with fifty faculty members. Before the close of the year the faculty was in- creased with three additional members. llffigg fN,X ,WB X Q W X Q X ugh .. wmiwf X-LF:-A 1 9 5 sg.. ,c I l3L1bliCatiOms BOO rd FACULTY CAROLINE COPELAND, Claairmaaz M. They meet on Thursday afternoons, after school closes, every two Weeks. Officers are Wandti Whitely, presidentg Ellen Sing, vice presidentg and Kathryn Eimer, secretary-treasurer. Kathryn Eimer, who ranked highest on a library test given for that purpose, was named KTUL librarian for Will Rogers KTUL Day. Up to date they have about twelve members in good standing, but intend to increase their membership when they become a school organization. Their officers are Don Emmick, presidentg Robert Oberfell, vice presidentg Johnny Litchenburg, secretaryg and Jack Cullcy, treasurer. After a slow start, due to injuries, the Ropers finished their season in fine style, winning four of their last five contests. Starting off in fine fashion the Ropers opened the season with a victory over the Claremore Zebras, 7 to 0. It was a costly victory for the Ropers as Captain Fred Stewart was injured. The Ropers then journeyed to Okmulgee, where they were defeated in a close battle, 20 to 13. The next game spelled disaster for the Ropers. They were defeated by the Central Braves, 26 to 0. Following a week of badly needed rest, the Ropers traveled to Muskogee and with five members of the first team still unable to be in suit they were defeated 15 to 6. Although the Rogers team did not win any of their matches, the contests were close. They were defeated by Central and Webster twice and by Bristow once. The tourna- ments, directed by Miss Bertie Hammond, Miss Lola Trusty, and Mrs. Ruby Quast, were held in fall and spring tennis, basketball, volley ball, softball, table tennis, speedball, and swimming. Points won by home rooms and individuals through partici- pation in these intramural contests were the basis upon which awards were made. Participation by home room groups was an important factor in determining the champion home room whose name was engraved on the new award plaque. For individual participation, the girls receive URW' upon winning a total of ten points, 'lT's,' were given for the attainment of senior rank and 300 points. PAGE 110 Girls' Sports In addition to the new intramural plan, posture pictures are taken and physical examinations are given twice a year to each girl enrolled in the physical education department at W'ill Rogers High School. Swimming classes are offered to both sophomore and junior girls as an essential part of their study. Also the pool is open for recreational swimming three days a week after school. A group of these swimmers took part in the second annual water carnival. Dancing was given to the girls' gym classes one day each week. Included are Modern Dance and Interpretation, Square Dance, Rhumba, Tango, Folk Dance, Waltz, Polka, and other folk dances. 5-11g 51 11 1 1 at :E Front Row, left to right-Howard Plowman, Jim Kaufmann, Chad Robison, Tom Finley, Ray McDaniels.
