As eager freshmen, we started our forward journey to senior- dom in September, 1949. Class officers were: James Davis, president, John Nelson, vice-president, Marilyn Reeves, secre- tary, Maryann Whisler, treasurer. We chose red and white as class colors and Always Forward, Never Backward as the motto for our class. We enjoyed two class parties--one a hallowe'en party at Jo Ellen Williams' and the other a weiner roast at John Nelson's. During our sophomore year we purchased red and gray class sweaters and jackets. Our two class parties were a pitch-in din- ner at the school house and a picnic at Riley Park. Claas officers were: John Nelson, president, Maryann Whisler, vice-president, Janyce Carter, secretary, Larry Harlan, treasurer. Our junior year was a busy year. We purchased our class jewelry, presented Hobgoblin' House on April 4, and honored the seniors with a dinner-party at the Edgewood Country Club, Anderson. We had two class parties during this year--a skating party at Fountaintown and a hamburger fry at Mrs. Holt's in New Castle. Money-making projects for the year consisted of the con- cession booth, greeting cards, nylon hose, schedule pencils, boos- ter badges and balloons, and Community Record subscriptions. Class officers were: John Nelson, president, Wade Friddle, vice- president, Carolyn Jones, secretary, Maryann Whisler, treas- urer. At last we became seniors. During this last year of our high school career we had our last class parties. They were a ham- burger fry at the V. F. W. Hall in Wilkinson and a surprise birth- day dinner for Mrs. Fort at her home. Class officers were: David Thomas, president, Maryann Whisler, vice-president, Larry Har- lan, secretary, Phillip Whitaker, treasurer. We presented our class play, Pleased ta Meetcha , on October 10. Pictures were made at Porter's Studio, Miller's Tours were employed to con- duct the senior trip, commencement invitations and name cards were purchased, this annual was published. During our four years of high school, Mrs. Helen Baney has been our sponsor with Mrs. June Holt and Mrs. Hulda Fort asco- sponsors in our junior and senior years respectively. Sixteen of us have had all our schoolin in Brown Township. Marilyn Cook, Wade Friddle, John Nelson, 1VFarilyn Reeves, David Thomas, Glenn Toloday, Ronnie Ubelhor, James Van Duyn, Mary- ann Whisler, and Alberta Whitin er have attended Wilkinson School for 12 years. Homer Bolen, gene Cupp, Larry Harlan, Martha Jane Renfro, Raymond Sirosky, and Gerald Wisehart began their school days at Shirley. Twelve of us came to Brown Township in different years from various places--Phillip Whitaker from Martinsville, Grade Z, Shirley, Duane Stickler from Wabash, Grade 2, Shirley, Kenneth Willis from Kennard, Grade 4, Shirley, Carolyn Jones from An- derson, Grade 5, Wilkinson, Crystal Wiseman from Central, Grade 7, James Davis from Markleville, freshman, Ilene Davisson from Kennard, freshman, Edna Fern Orr from Morocco, sopho- more, Lawrence Wilson from Charlottesville, sophomore, Floyd Snider from Eden, sophomore, Nancy Burns from Bentonville, senior. Now as we go forth to our careers, our heads are high with hope, and our thoughts are filled with the memory of all the good times we had during our school days. Srript ut' tht Zfuturz A few days a o my friend, GENE CUPP, who is now advisor to the U. S. Surveyor of the Department of Interior, and I were privile ed to attend a ball game that brought backmany memories of our school? days Z0 years a o. This game was the finale of the Indiana State Basketball Championsgiip, and the Wilkinson Bulldogs, coached tg' WADE FRID- DLE, were playing. Seated in front of us was JOHN ELSON, now a prominent farmer, owner of four large farms in the vicinity of Wilkin- son. He proudly pointed out his son on the team and also a chubby stu- dent manager, the son of JAMES VAN DUYN, who is now vocational agriculture teacher at Wilkinson. He told us that the head cheerleader was the daughter of LARRY HARLAN, superintendent of the electron- ical defpartment of the RCA Television Company. A ew seats to the right of us we recognized MARILYN COOK. As old friends will, we soon engaged in a conversation. -Marilyn is the owner of a large dance studio in Detroit, Michigan. She told us that the three fashionably-dressed ladies down infront were NANCY BURNS, EDNA FERN ORR, and CRYSTAL WISEMAN. Nancy is head model for the Bolen-Stickler Gown Co. of New York, co-owned by HOMER BOL- EN and DUANE STICKLER. Edna Fern is the editor of the Lonely Hearts' Column for the Indianapolis Star, and Crystal managesn the Casablanca Restaurant in Indianapolis. When we inquired about CAR- OLYN JONES, Marilyn told us that she was busy making preparations for her marriage to her employer fafter all these years of lap-sittingl. To our left we saw KENNETH WILLIS. As we moved closer to reet him, hepointed out RONNIE UBELHOR, GLENN TOLODAY, and Pq-IIL- LIP WHITAKER. Kenneth is mana er of the Eavey Super Market, which he introduced to Shirley. He tolg us that Glenn and Phil were co- owners in a combination body-repair and motor-rebuilding shop. Ron- nie is superintendent of Plant 6 at Delco Remy in Anderson. Kenneth also told us that GERALD WISEHART was unable to attend the ame since he was starring in the motorcycle dare-devil act in Bailey Eros. Circus. Truly, this was like old home week, for soon we spotted MARTHA JANE RENFRO sitting hear the brightly uniformed band. She is the wife of the band director of Wilkinson School. She told us that MARI- LYN REEVES, MARYANN WHISLER, and ALBERTA WHITINGER were there somewhere. Marilyn Reeves has settled down on a small farm near the edge of Wilkinson. Maryann is head dietician at the Robert Long Hospital in Indianapolis, and Alberta is busy playing the role of housewife and mother. We returned to our seats to find that they were occupied by DAVID THOMAS and LAWRENCE WILSON. They are co-owners in a Grade A dairy establishment. I always thought David liked dairy farming. Huh? Cameras flashed from time to time, and the photographer was none other than RAYMOND SIROSKY, a retporter' for the Chica o Tribune. In our reminiscing, we discovere that ILENE DAVISEON was not present. She is a Commander in the Waves. It is regretful that MRS. BANEY and MRS. FORT couldn't have been there. Shortly after our graduation, Mrs. Baney went to Cuba to take a long rest--greatly needed after taking the hurdles tour years with us. She liked it so we l that she made her home there. Due to the fact that Mrs. Fort was with us only one year, a tour of England seemed sufficient to restore her ragged nerves. However, it is almost heart- breaking to see her take her weekly Sunday walk--with a cane. Well, I must drop everything and go pick up FLOYD SNIDER to go to work. We both work at Sears Roebuck in New Castle. He is man- ager of the Farm Store, and I, JAMES DAVIS, am Credit Manager. East will :mb Ztfratammi We, the Seniors of 1953, of the City of Wilkinson, County of Hancock, and State of Indiana, being of sound mind and memory do make, publish, and declare this to be our last will and testa- ment, hereby revoking and annulling any and all wills made by us heretofore.
