The selection, made by an undisclosed committee of three or five members, is based upon the athletes ability to cooperate with his instructors and classmates, his sportsmanship and conduct on the playing floor, his ability to follow training rules, and his attitude toward home and community. The trophy awarded becomes the permanent property of the athlete. Ralph Wales, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Wales of Shirley, was the first recipient of the award.
