Here instruction is given in many lines of work, as designing, color harmony, water color painting, oil painting, lettering, poster work, etching and block printing. The Art department annually sponsors an exhibition of the work of its outstanding students. WILLIAM A' PRICE dr! MECHANICAL DRAWING Another interesting feature is mechanical drawing, which is interest- ing to all who have any talent for drawing. In the beginning of the courses, the work consists in drawing geometrical Hgures and designsg later practice in the drawing of machine parts and architectural figures. Besides conducting the girls' health classes, our dean aids in personality adjustments. She is also in charge of all social functions of the high school. The guidance counselor acts as the educa- tional adviser for the entire school. He helps students plan their courses EDWARD F' ESE that will best prepare them for after school life. .Ytadent Caumelar THE LIBRARY The library is like an enchanted isle, apart from the bustle of a worka- day world. Here, with a gripping story, life assumes a cheerful tone, care Y vanishes. Since the time of the Phoenicians, words have been man's chief tool of communicationg thus practice in the correct use of words and a thorough knowledge of the entire English language are es- sential courses in the English curriculum in the High School. It is practi- cally impossible to spend one day in the modern business world when the situation does not arise which commands a competent and able handling ofthe English language. Demosthenes, most noted of Greek orators, spent many long and tiresome hours in overcoming a serious impediment in his speech. Hourly, he practiced throwing his voice against the mighty roar of the ocean's waves, and finally overcame his serious handicap. By doing so, he became one ofthe world's best known orators, and won for himself 18
