Farley, the First Lady of Wilkes, whose charm and graciousness have enriched Our college years. We take this op- portunity to express our appreciation for her countless contributions to Our college and community and, particularly, for her inter- est in us as students. Her spirit of con- geniality permeates our college life and in- fuses among us a feeling of empathy. As aestudent of music and art, as an ac- complished hostess, and as a warm personali- ty, she has furnished us with confidence and inspiration that we will not soon forget. Again, we thank her for her interest, con- cern, and devotion. THE MESSAGE dowed. j PRESIDENTiS You graduate from Wilkes at a time when the freedoms that we have taken for granted are under attack. If, in your years at Wilkes, you have come to understand and cherish the ideals upon which our Western Civilization is based, you will wish to play a constructive part in maintaining and strengthening those ideals that lead slowly but inevitably toward human advancement. Only through manls attempt to live by great ideals is he able to increase in significance and humaneness. We now face a great challenge, and, in years ahead, this challenge will increase. If we are to meet it successfully, we must nurture to the fullest the resources of mind and spirit with Which We have been en- It is my hope that your years at Wilkes will have equipped you to participate vigor- ously and constructively in the long struggle to maintain freedom and respect for the rights of all individuals and all groups.
