The Winterfest included a large variety of talented artists and performances. There were several musical performances in the Winterfest. Elza Jones Setzer, a soprano from Caldwell Community College, and David Mellnik, a baritone from McDowell Technical College gave us a taste of opera. Everyone was entertained with an afternoon and an evening of folk and traditional American music by Michael Thompson from Durham Technical Institute, Jan Davidson from Southwestern Technical College, Bobby McMillon from Southeastern Technical College, and the Southern Crescent - Bill Mansfield from Richmond Technical College, Wayne Martin former Visiting Artist Program Coordinator, and Margaret Martin - Folk Life Specialist, North Carolina Arts Council. Four instrumental performers for the Winterfest were Pol Sofras, a concert harpist, Lydra Gatlin Bardin, a concert pianist, Sarah Johnson, a concert violinist, and Bill Carter, a concert guitarist. Tom Smialek, a saxaphonist from Pamlico Technical College, performed with Wilkes Community's own Jazz Ensemble. Other performing artists were Bryan Vann Thompson from Blue Ridge Technical College who put on a mime performance, and Louise Anderson from Surry Community College did a performance on Storytelling. Roger Manley from Halifax Community College, Betty Harris from Johnson Technical College, Richard Mayberry from Mayland Technical College, Kim Irvin from Nash Technical College, Susanne Yowell from Sampson Technical College, and Wilkes Community CoIIege's Visiting Artist Jeremiah Miller all held workshops on their various visual arts. Many talented ballet performers put on the Nutcracker . The Wilkes Winterfest was a big success and everyone is looking forward to a repeat performance next year. 1 1 v H-sv, f , f QM ff. f,?z77 'Vx ,gay ' 4553 17 gf?- ,AA, QQ , K, ff, ffffff X f ,, f Wfff Jo: f Z i 3 2 E 0' ,ff , nn, fi 47' 4 Z? -ww Wwwwxf AN, 1 a 5 E , 1, 51 ,X Af 1 , ja gp, M, Ag. Baptist Student Union First of all, the Baptist Student Union is here at WCC to promote a healthy school spirit, to provide outings and activities which will build positive relationships between members, to interact in community rela- tions, and to provide a spiritual or Christian atmosphere of love on campus. We have sponsored many enjoyable activities here at WCC including two delicious picnics and a fun-filled hike. Also, we have bought Christmas dinner for a needy family and donated money to a burnt out victim. Finally for the very near future, we have plans to teach Sunday School at diverse churches located throughout Wilkes County and to attend the Baptist Student Union State Conference at Caraway. X f 1 I-J 5 Q 7- - J ' ' ' The student life at Wilkes Community College involves more for the student than just the classes that helshe attends. By simply walking down the hall, one can feel the bond that draws the students together at WCC. You can see this in the groups of students that gather all over the campus to talk about one thing or another. There are students huddled together in the library studying for a test. There are students gathered in the halls or the commons areas discussing the kinds of days they've each had. There are students clustered around the gum discussing intramural sports or last nights basketball game. There are students all over the WCC campus. All of them sharing a little of themselves with each other as they work together for the achievement of their common goal - a better tomorrow. 4 . , s rg 'Mfr if , Kim Revels ond Borboro Pressnell ,emfgar 1 Us , Wi-2 ri 'J 344-N spin o few records in the lower commons.
