A successful exhibition of practicable learning encourages good quality-a trait of Wilkes Central. Central's spirit is shown in the more practical prepara- tion for life . . . the pride in the face of a first-year Home Ec. student as she cooks her first meal or makes her first blouse . . . the all girl wedding in third year . . . those lectures on cattle judging and tool identification in 'Ag. . . . or working at home on projects . . . filling out endless pages of iournals in bookkeeping . . . filling miniature letters in exasperating little cardboard files for office management. Along with a student's eagerness to leam, Central teachers are willing to give personal instruction. The theme of Wilkes Central is prepartion for the future, and college day makes the future more real. The spirit shone through those who stood alone, the leaders . . . those who sounded the student body's voice to How this school should run . . . serving at the P.T.A. supper . . . Yes, l know your son. He's in my room. . . . sponsoring college day . . . student council members wait- ing patiently outside the Home Ec. rooms while the repre- sentatives have coffee and doughnuts. But the spirit can shine through those who lead only as the student groups follow. Here we find the true spirit of Central, in those who serve as individuals to make up a group . . . in Hey don't mark on that desk, its SCHOOL property . . . l can't goil have to study . . . C Who cares where he lives? He's a great guy J . . . Sure l'll stay and help with the decorations for the dance. . . . the students decided to go by the rules, to keep up a high acedemic standing, to support extra-curricular activi- ties, to let personal worth be the yardstick for measurement at Central. ln living this year at Central the student body found within themselves and their actions the spirit of Central. v J The practical application of chemistry proves that study IS worth while. The spirit of our school is founded on Central's purpose- to teach, and to develop the whole of each individual. We have learned that in order to develop, we must work. How much we grew and what factors of our personalities we developed depended on what we worked on, whether it was outlining a chemistry chapter before the class lecture . . . forcing tired, aching legs to run around the track field just one more time . . . working on the clean up crew for the Jr.-Sr .... working as an office practice girl. In working to learn, there was developed ha spirit, which prompts a former student to say proudly, Yes, l'm a graduate of Wilkes Central High School! Page Ten The atmosphere in a bank increases the incentive to under- stand economics. Indian war dance adds to the study of early American Liter ature in Freshmen English.
