For college-minded seniors grades took on a new importance, as they realized that they would soon be reviewed by several colleges. Trudging to Dr. Thompson's office with transcripts, preparing for college en- trance exams, receiving grim warnings about getting their application in on time- these became routine for them as they went about getting in a college. The junior year was characteristically one of furious activity and projects, most of these aimed in the purposeful direction of staging a Junior-Senior Banquet that would do its planners proud. The class went through periods of depres- sion and elation concerning the frightening financial aspect of the J.-S., they came through the Crowell-Collier magazine sale, however, with flying colors, raking in a bigger profit than had any previous junior class at W. C. With their new budget of 53,'lOO, they began polling ideas for the superior that they brought off fin the springj without a hitch. Coming, as upperclassmen, under the in- fluence of the college-mindecl seniors, the previously sheltered juniors became aware of job and college requirements, the fact that they, too, would soon be shoved out on their own gave them reason for some sober thought. They expended monstrous amounts of energy preparing speeches for the U. N. speech contest and the other speech contest peculiar in origin to the junior year. Becoming eligible for membership in most school societies, they began for the first time to take responsible parts in school life, culmi- nating their year were the election from among the juniors of the student body officers and club officers, and the selection of mar- shals for the following year.
