To the Graduates of 1966: Give me a place to stand and I will move the world , boasted the Greek mathematician Archimedes. He con- ceived of the lever and the increase in mechanical power it could produce. Every man has abilities that constitute a lever to move the world , or at least change it for better or worse. Your years at Waterloo have endowed you with knowledge and, we hope, wisdom. They have enhanced your ability and improved your leverage. To what end? If you have acquired some perspective on life and some appreciation of the problem of man's in- ability to get along with man on this turbulent globe, your leverage will be activated by love for God and fellowmen. A university is only as great as its alumni-the depth of their understanding, the values to which they cling, the love they share, the life they live, the destiny they seek, and the dreams they dream. Move the world each day as though it were your last, and you will reflect honour upon yourself and your alma mater. Godspeed!
