Mr. Robert Ahrens was the faculty sponsor. Combining initiative and willingness to work, the l-li-Y formulated many notable ac- complishments. Highlights of Hi-Y activities were the coronation festivities for the Basket- ball Queen. The boys were again in charge of the homecoming bonfire and the used book store. Cooperating with the Key Club they entered a float in the merchants' Christmas parade and won a second place. Buttonieres were sold at their Sweetheart Ball and proceeds were given to the Heart Fund. Y-Teens collected linen for the Cancer Society and received special recognition at a commu- nity tea. Affiliated with the Terre Haute Kiwanis Club the Wiley Key Club members promoted many worthwhile projects. Fourteen desks and chairs were given to the Beacon School of the Valley for cerebral palsied children. The boys sponsored Safe Driving Week, TWIRP WEEK and a Litter Bag campaign. The club furnished soft drinks for visiting teams. collected money for the United Appeal, plant- ed flowers and trees around the school buildings and purchased a new podium for the gym. At the end of the year they honored their fathers with a Lads and Dads Banquet. Members served the school by assisting in library routine, de- signing exhibits for library display, planning bibliographies and purchasing records. Mem- bers are affiliated with the state organization, the Hoosier Student Librarians Association. Scribblers met weekly to develop their liter- ary interests. At the meetings they read their poems and stories and gained an insight to their problems through each others criticisms.
