You know of whom I speak: Everyone must know, He is a man we all respect, None other than Coach Joe. We, the class of fifty-four, Do proudly dedicate This yearbook called The Wildcat's Lair To him whom we appreciate. Football! basketball! Baseball and all- He's made us champs every year: Look at our trophies in the hall. He's given us much good adviceg He's helped us when in need. Conquer first yourself, he said- A good motto indeed. This world is quite a big old place, But wherever you may go, Remember that you'll not find one Quite like our own Coach Joe. rinccyoa 3 edda 9 e Dear Seniors: As Iwrite this, your senior year is rapidly coming to a close at Wildwood High School. This book is one of the few material things that will link you with your high school. Keep it, cherish it, look at it often. Use it as a means of keeping in touch with your youth As you look through it, remember the good tirnes, the fine experiences, the wonderful people. Recall your hopes, de- sires and ambitions. You will soon be taking up the burdens of adulthood, but try to keep an open mind and a willing heart in each life endeavor. V The generations of Americans that have preceded you have left magnificent marks upon the pages of history. Whatever your place is to be in this world, do your job earnestly and do it well. Be not like dumb driven cattle, . Be a hero in the strife. , fl ., 5 CAQTEM 3 01111 BROWARD MILLER County Superintendent .xdclminirifrafion JOHN WALLACE ROY CARUTHERS ROSCOE GANT Chm. Be it enacted by the Congress of the Senior Class of Wildwood High SchooL Section I.. This act may be cited as Seniors '54 . Section 2. This act is passed to relate the history leading to graduation of the Class of I954. In the fall of 1950, sixty-three new students, entered the halls of Wildwood High School. For the Freshman term in school the class leaders were as follows: Mrs. Annye Piggotte--Sponsor, Madlyn Coupland-- President, Floretta Hurst--Vice President, Jim Strickland--Secretary and Treasurer, and Tommy Bright- -Reporter. After the Class had received their initiation they were regarded as members of Wildwood High School. The Class was honored that year by having Jeanette Clayton elected to the Sweetheart Court. The executive department for the Sophomore term consisted of Mr. Roger Jacobs--Sponsor, Gilbert Crenshaw--President, Richard Warren--Vice President, Jimmy Strickland--Secretary, Junior Sellers--Treasurer, and Floretta Hurst--Reporter. The magazine sale was sponsored by the Class to add to the class treasury. Officers elected for the Junior term were: Joe Grouby--President, Judy Milton--Vice President, Jewel Leigh--Secretary, Madlyn Coupland- -Treasurer, and George Maddox--Reporter. Sponsors were Mr. Roger Jacobs and Mr. Herman Keeney. Many honors came to the Class that year: Jewell Leigh was elected State Vice-President of Beta Clubg Wildwood won the Class A State Champs in Basketball, with Mose Walsh receiving All State : Judy Milton, Captain and Deloris Williams Co -Captain of the Basketball Team, received all-conference g Madlyn C0uP12l'1d and Judy Milton WSIS in the Sweetheart Court. After the Class had presented the Junior Play, The Perfect Idiot , they gave a Prom in honor of the Seniors. Those holding offices for the Senior term were: Gilbert Crenshaw--President, Darlene Cason--Vice President, Sonya Rogers, Secretary, Jewell Leigh--Treasurer, and sponsored by Mr. John Behr and Mrs. Jennie Stewart. The senior play A Date with Judy was a big success, as it made it possible for the seniors to put cement benches on the school campus for their children's use. The Seniors have worked hard in the making of the annual for the '53 and '54 school term. Through the years of High School the Class number had decreased to forty-five. This is due to Uncle Sam, Matrimony, Wanderlust, and other such misfortunes. Section 3. There is hereby graduated a class to assume the duties of citizenship for which their school life has prepared them Section 4. This act shall take effect upon the graduation of the Class, May 28, I954. Author of Bill William David Scott 60 omecomin I9 4 - I979 It is 1979 and the largest Homecoming Dance that Wildwood has ever seen is being held in the gymnasium, begun in 1951 and finished last year. ' Being director of the band playing for the dance and a former member of the class, I am in an excellent position to give you a thumbnail sketch of each of the former members of the Class of '54' as each makes his appearance. First I see Jewell Leigh, Ph.D. , and Professor of English at the University of Paris, talking to David Scott. Jewell just completed a book entitled, A Thousand and One Knock-Knocks, which promises to become a best seller almost over night. David, who is photographer for the Tampa Tribune, won the Pulitzer Prize for his candid shot of Mrs. Jennie Stewart working on this year's annual. Deloris Williams stopped over on her way to visit England. She has been the talk of athletic circles since she defeated the Rus- sian Women's Wrestling Champion, Nocka Headoff in East Berlin. Bruce York and Fred Crenshaw all dressed up in the latest western fashions, came tonight with two New York chorus girls. The title World's Shortest Cowboy was awarded to Bruce while Fred was winning the World's Championship Rodeo at Madison Square Garden last year. Shirley and Glen Talbott had to leave the family behind. At last count there was an even dozen. Jeannette Clayton seems to be having as much fun dancing as ever. Since making a heet on Broadway as a French divorcee, she has been swamped with requests for her phone number. Tommy Watson is her partner for this dance. He is noted for a hair-do combining the D.A. , Ponytail and Poodle Cut. Judy Milton just stopped in for a short time on her way to Paris, to assume her duties as secretary to the President of France. Commander Lew Wright and Major 'Bennie Fore are also in the party going to Europe. Commander Wright is to become Naval attache' in Italy and Major Fore, Military attache' in Germany. We have four of our girls down from New York, Marlene Hayes, Clementine McClain and Johnnie Lee are secretaries in the United Nations. Naomi Lee is noted for her style of Blues singing in the Latin Quarter. They all seem to be enjoying themselves talking to Ethan Fort, better known as Charlton Grapple, the romantic movie star, and Leland Mercer who recently made his debut in Carnegie Hall as a trumpet soloist. v I just over heard Jack Sands, Dean Davis, and Rudy Geraci talking about the possibility of a snow storm this year ruining their Ioo, ooo acres of watermelons. They decided that if Andrew Nichols keeps buming up the race tracks at Daytona and Sebring there should be an early spring. Janice Alman is now making her grand entrance with her husband. He owns 65 oil wells in Texas and a fleet of Cadillacs. Janice has finally realized her dream. She also has the largest mink in the Southeast. Ruby Lee Golden just saw Janice and is rushing over to meet her. Ruby has to leave at 9:00 tonight to get to Radio City. She is the star of America's most popular radio show Ruby 's Rantings , broadcast in Spanish, also in English. Pauline Millican, noted author and woman of letters, will present to Mr. John Behr a copy of his biography, later on tonight. His conducting of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra has brought world acclaim. Mary Margaret Stafford assumed her mother's place as teacher of the first grade. She also teaches twirling and has made the Wildwood majorettes the best in the state. A Gary Jennings and Bennie Jones furnished all the orange juice from their J 8a J concentrate Plant. They bought all Bing Crosby's stock in Minute Maid and combined with Snow Crop. Both are worth over a million dollars. Barbara Windham stands close to the punch bowl to see that no pranks are played. Bennie hired her as official orange juice taster. Junior Golden was unable to attend. Since winning the title Most Superlative Loafer he is trying to live up to it.
