Wildwood High School is filled with the memories and those aspects of school life which made yearbook history. The Islander '74 would not have been accomplished without the cooperation of the faculty, administration, and students. We would like to take this time to thank those who have given their aid and advice. The faculty for allowing us out of class. The administration for their continued support. Mr. Hartman for his enthusiasm and smiling face. Mr. Betz, Mr. Gicas, and Mr. Martin who made our assembly possible. Our accountants for hiding our money in safe places. Our photographers — whoever and wherever they may be. The board of education for their continued support. Best wishes. If you ever happen to pass Room 101 between classes, chances are you will be greeted by Mrs. King's beaming face. Her enthusiasm and tireless efforts have been a constant source of inspiration to all around her, and she has added immeasurably to the spirit of Wildwood High School. Those who have been fortunate enough to work with Mrs. King have witnessed her extraordi- nary depth of talent, dedication, and experience. She also possesses a unique personality, which extends in range from quiet dignity to dynamic exuberance. Empty superlatives, however, cannot express Mrs. King's vast achievements. Her record can. She is the composer of several Biblical operas that have been both published and performed, many songs, piano works, an organ orchestral, and a ballet, just to name a few. A finalist in the Ford Foundation Award for Choral Conducting, she has appeared on radio and T.V. with her groups. With this yearbook, we hope to express our gratitude and perhaps to return a small portion of the love that Mrs. Betty King has shown us. 14 To The Graduating Class of 1974: Life is a series of developmental tasks. Basically, young people have a natural desire to develop skills which will allow them to control aspects of their environment. Our society today is pronounced with the need to achieve mastery of things. Society is also a force which shapes an individual's development, motivation and adjustment. Every student is a unique individual differing from every other individual and he is worthy of whatever attention and help that may be necessary from society and its educational institutions for him to grow to his optimum. I am certain that you have found your learning experi- ences here at Wildwood High School valuable in their total contribution to your intellectual, physical and emo- tional growth and development. My best wishes for many years of good health, happi- ness and success. Fred J. Procopio Superintendent of Schools Fred J. Procopio SoCt ui ofr BdouCCtiiOw SEATED: Mrs. E. Biliris, Mrs. G. MANCIA A democratic society depends upon alert, well-informed citizens with their full potential of intellectual competence and a keen sense of personal responsibility to their fellow man. It is my hope that during your years at Wildwood High School you have developed the ability to assume a responsible role and represent only the best in tomorrow’s world. If there is righteousness in the heart, there will be beauty in the character. If there is beauty in the character, there will be harmony in the home. If there is harmony in the home, there will be order in the nation. If there is order in the nation, there will be peace in the world. (author unknown) The faculty and administration congratulate you and wish you a successful and happy future. DOMINICK J. MANCIA Principal RICHARD B. O'CONNER 'Tfrti Ckte 1974 Words themselves mean little to man, who is a finite being. This being so, then what must man pursue to gain under- standing? The answer to this question each of you must find in his or her way, based on your individual standard of values. The challenge is great, but each person must meet it and attempt to succeed, I wish you all the best of luck in this endeavor. The training you received in your formative years will help you to better reek the solution to the questions of life. Go, enjoy, involve, and grow, because all of tomorrow belongs to you. MR. FfaStlA iw iw 3Ym l An exciting 55-54 victory by the WHS faculty over the WCHS faculty was the highlight of Jan. 16, 1974. An injury to Mr. Leahy caused Eddy Mast to play against us, but his 19 pts. could not penetrate. Mr. Coront and Mr. Hardy were dazzling the spectators with their fantastic moves. Mr. McCracken (thought to be Jerry West on the court), amazed everyone with his long shots. It was rumored that these skills were but a mere example of the hidden talents of the men. It's Hardy for 2”. I think it's stuck up there. 60 Procticing for the gome. B bt t Luck On December 14, 1973, the Var- sity Club again attempted to play the Cheerleaders, but failed to win. The Cheerleaders once again with their amazing agility pulled through with a 2 pt. victory. The Varsity Club thought it was just luck so they chal- lenged the faculty to try and match their wits. The faculty also proved too much for the club. Terry Cattell’s 13 pts. could not carry the team far enough for Mr. Coront and Mr. DiLorenzo were the stars of the game. Celebrating their victory! Co OuAz Wy WoMy After many months of hard work the class of 1974 presented this year's prom, with our theme “Colour My World. The class worked many months preparing for this event, some of our projects included cake sales and car washes. The Junior-Senior prom was held on the evening of May 1 8 at Ed Zaberer’s. Along with the delicious dinner, the couples enjoyed the live entertainment at both the prom and after-prom party. Highlighting the evening was the announcement of the Prom Queen and her Court. Members of the Court were Beverly Linton, Colleen Love, Kathy Palmer and Linda Taylor. The 1973 Prom Queen was Marian Bowman. Topping off this delightful evening were the after-prom party and the prom breakfast. Both were sponsored by parents of the Junior class. The Class of 1974 did an out- standing job of making this year’s prom a great success! 85 The Queen and her Court. Fftsfuott Qkow Committee: S. Neidhardt, S. Felings, V. Glenn, V. Tantaros, S.
