Coming here from Queen of Peace High School in North Arlington, N.J., Sister has taken the position formerly held by Sr. Marie Rudegeair, Principal. Sr. Mary Ellen is a graduate of the University Virginia, where she has accumulated a Masters degree in social studies. Based on leader- ship, character, and academics, the members perform acts of service through the many activities that they and their moderator, Sr. Frances Antoinette, orga- nize. During Catholic Schools Week, the society conducted Intellectual Day, when all enjoyed Wildwood Catholic’s own ver- sion of Family Feud, in honor of the 50th anniversary of the diocese. The spring held such events as our annual student Talent Show and Physical Week. The Na- tional Honor Society is well-known for its enthusiastic endeavors that make our school year a memorable one. 31 Co-Presidents: K. Ward. E. Katz, Vice-President: S. Quinn, Secretary: J. Dever. The Photography Club is headed by Sr. Deanna Helm and its aim is to teach students how to take pictures for possibly yearbook use, developing their own film, and utilizing the dark room. The Beta Club, under moderator, Sr. Mary Ellen Ford, began as an intellectual gymnastics club created for exploring mind exercises. They encourage challenges and school spirit. Events planned for this year are: a seventh grade trivia tournament to prepare for W.C., a mini-olympics day and possibly organizing intramural sporting events. The Ecology Club began this year with the awareness assembly given by Mrs. Watson on recycling. Moderator, Mr. Watson, and the club have organized the recycling movement by labeling trashcans in our cafeteria and making sure all materials get to the recycling center. They have also made posters to make our school more aware of our ecological problems. Ms. Crews-Lynch’s Creative Kids Once again, Students Against Drunk Driving (SADD) arranged for Wildwood Catholic to have a special visitor, one that would share with us his story about drinking and driving. His name was Hector Del Valle. He told us of his accident, and how it has negatively affected his life. After hearing Hector’s story and seeing SADD members participate in a White-Out, representing the dead drunk drivers in the world, the W.C. family will realize that drinking and driving is a mistake. Student Council “You want me to wake up Tricia?” This year's 1987-88 Student Council, under moderator - Mr. Jo- seph Kubiak, has proved very successful in that both previous and newly-elected members have helped to make our school a better learning environment. Our motto this year was. “Participation through communication” explaining the Council’s desire to bridge the gap between student and faculty, and make W.C. a truly harmonious atmosphere. Our hope for this year was to fulfill needs that have been brought to our attention and that the spirit and peace achieved will benefit students in years to come. — Tricia Ricco Moderator: Mr. Kubiak Michelle impersonates a Christmas tree. Grandma, and Grandpa. I love you all. 83 Wildwood Catholic is celebrating its fortieth year. We. the seniors of 1988 will remember it as a sweet memory ... one sprinkled with special moments to hold in our hearts. Whichever mo- ments you choose to recall, savor them, for they will not come this way again. The strains of the calliope are distant ... the carousel is stilled ... the Midway lights are dimmed ... and the noise of the crowd is hushed as we step forward into the sands of time to seek the treasures of “sea- shells and beachbums” ... another beginning ... a new promise. As we move forward, it is good to glance back, reminisce and remember that we did not get here alone. Others before us have paved the way and have insured our strength, our growth, our future. It is ours now to make new paths, strive for new horizons, meet and accept new challenges, and achieve our ultimate potential. Only then can we validate the dedicated service of past leaders; only then will we be able to step forth with new vision, renewed confidence, and greater enthusiasm. We, the students, are the future of this school - -- the promise that Wildwood Catholic will con- tinue to be a strong Catholic high school dedi- cated to the ideals and purposes for which it was formed forty years ago. We are the foundation upon which this school stands and the cement which bonds it together in dedication, service and friendship. We are the reason why our priests, sisters, faculty and student council dedi- cate themselves to service. The goals of Wildwood Catholic High School are the development of our faith, the continu- ance of our education, our understanding, and the achievement of our fullest potentials as a person. As these goals are met, growth will take place naturally. Sister Paul Mary. S.S.J. is recognized for her 40 years of devout service here ... we love you. Sister Paul! June 1, 1987 marked a trag- ic day in the life of Wildwood Catholic. The unexpected and untimely death of Mr. Frank Platt still burns in the hearts of our school community. We all have our memories of him which we now hold dear, but one of those special ways the yearbook staff has chosen to remember him is through this 1987-88 yearbook. So here's to you, Paco — we dedicated all our hard work on this book to you. We love you and will never forget you Frank L. Platt 1952-1987 You bid no one a last farewell, you did not say good- bye. You were gone before we knew it, and only God knows why. A million times we've needed you, a million times we’ve cried. If love alone could have saved you, you never would have died. In life we loved you dearly, in death we love you still For in our hearts you hold a place that no one could ever fill. It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone, For part of each of us went with you the day God took you home.
