Text from Pages 1 - 52 of the 1950 volume:

The Symbols of .. . ... Our Cherished Inheritance Every worthwhile project is the result of relentless sacri- fice, intensive study, and persistent striving for the quality that gives distinction. Such a project is Wildwood Catholic High School. This heritage of a Catholic High School is the fruit of the efforts that animated our Pastor, our parents, and our friends, to search for something better in education. The pioneering spirit — that insistence on nothing but the best for Wildwood Catholic — has given us a school that is the admiration of all who see it, and the love and devotion of those whose privilege it is to be among the first to claim Wildwood Catholic High School for their Alma Mater. Within the pages of this book we have tried to capture some glimpses of the activities which have taken place in our school since its opening two years ago. Ours is a rich and stimulating life here at Wildwood Catholic. Our school motto, Fides et Scientia, alerts us to the spirit of Faith which should animate our every action. Our royal blue and white banner unfurls a challenge that we are privileged to meet with the courage and enthusiasm of those who have made our school no longer a dream, but a reality. Our school seal incorporates within itself the spirit of Wildwood Catholic. Animated by lively Faith we strive that the knowledge acquired here may be a firm defense against the powers of evil and that from our midst may rise up courageous Catholic leaders who will challenge the world through Fides et Scientia. WILDWOOD CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL WILDWOOD NEW JERSEY As We Observe the Students at Wildwood Catholic High School cherish, among other treasures, the privilege of beginning the day with Holy Mass. Here the boys and girls of the Senior class participate in this great sacrifice. Right Reverend Monsignor Quinlan officiates on this occasion. 25 tj) itolp Hear £$ ljjait ?ti £3 i ' V .-'T’jST''.- ■ S|s8p P Our Holy Father, Pope Pius XII, announced this Holy Year, the twenty; fifth in the history of the Church, on his name-day, June 2 ■ ■„■.■ - ' ■ HIS HOLINESS POPE PIUS XII 1949 We, the students of Wildwood Catholic High School, join our prayers with those of the faithful to bring about the Peace of Christ which we all so earnestly desire. Quinlan, whose keen foresight, unrivaled courage, and boundless zeal in the interest of Catholic education, have made Wildwood Catholic High School possible. Mon- signor's priestly love of his children was the motivat- ing force that urged him on in spite of unsurmount- able obstacles, to the completion of his aim. We are privileged, therefore, to dedicate this, our first yearbook, to Monsignor. 7 IN DEDICATION . . Of a Heritage of Knowledge FACULTY SISTER FRANCES BERNADEnE. S.S.J. A group of Sophomores study intently the wonders of science as seen through the microscope. The activity of marine life seems to fascinate these young scientists. As Christian Educated Youth We Can Face the Future With Confidence Typing for personal use as well as for vocational use gives these students an opportunity to adapt themselves to the needs of the future. Keenly intent upon the explanation which John Barrett is presenting, this group of Juniors solve an intricate problem in advanced algebra. JUNIORS Hardly has the bell rung when classroom doors open and stu- dents throng to the next class. 14 Before they begin class, the Seniors prayerfully invoke aid in their study of Religion. SENIORS The use of modern business machines, and the study of filing prepare these students for their initial job. To aid in the development of proper reading habits stu- dents are directed to study modern periodicals. The starting five consisted of Joe Keough (Cap- tain), Jim Maffei, Peter Timmins, Bob Scully, and Vincent Stella. Although three letter- men will be graduated this year, the boys coming up should shape into another tour- nament team. Coach Frank McAlarnen and Captain Joe Keough go over some last-minute strategy.
