You think these guys would use their time to study? Hah! George LeFebvre and Jim Valentino just wanna have fun dur- ing Senior Priviledge. Privileged Seniors Chat, Eat, Relax 0 alking by the Wilby cafeteria during the morning hours, you might see several students there, eating and so- cializing. But it's too early for lunch, you think. What are these kids doing? Skipping class? The answer is no — this is their class, it's called Senior Privilege, and is a unique kind of Study Hall. It originated at Wilby four years ago and each period is supervised by 1 or 2 teach- ers. Wilby is the only school that has such a program. This year, Mr. Dooley, Mrs. Bergantino, Mr. Ponzillo, Miss Yadarola, Mrs. Barber, and Mr. Minutillo were the overseers of the exclusive Senior Privilege classes. Their opinions: I think It's great, says Mr. Ponzillo. He likes the idea that the students can purchase breakfast foods, study, do homework, or just chat. Miss Yadarola also approves of the Senior Privilege program, as long as it isn't abused (by the students). What do the students have to say? you may wonder. Well, Michael Carrafa says that Senior Privilege is a time to relax, and sometimes sleep, Wendy Shanahan remarks, When I'm there, it's relaxing and comfortable. And every- one favors the glazed doughnuts! The popular opinion among teachers and stu- dents alike is that Senior Privilege is a favorable addition to Wilby's curriculum. This will be obvi- ous if you ever see a Senior Privilege class in session. Everyone will be having a good time, as the Seniors get a taste not only of doughnuts and muffins, but of the liberty they will have after graduation. DEMETRA D. CHRISTINE M. FARINA A solitary shovder had Wilby to himself. Just him and all that snow. Snow Days Are A Two-Sided Coin ou've been praying all night. Oh, God, please let it snow; please, please, please!'' You bound out of bed and turn on an AM station. During a BeeGees song, you move to the window to check out the snow situation. Great. You can still see your mom's car; it's not even half covered! But wait — Waterbury public and parochial schools, CLOSED. Yes! No school! Another five hours of uninterrupted sleep. You wake up around eleven o'clock and think about getting out of bed, but decide against it. If you show your face in the kitchen Dad'll send you out with a shovel and a warning to not come back until you've cleared the entire block! So you lay in bed until you hear someone else shoveling your sidewalk, then nap for another hour. When you finally come out of hibernation, you make lunch and start catching up on your soap operas or you get hooked on Wheel of Fortune You vegetate on the couch with a bag of chips until — Oh no. Mom has that familiar look in her eye — it's too late to hide. You know what that look means , it's small project time! Eek! She'll have you cleaning the hall closet or scrubbing the bath- room in no time. Well, so much for the workless day you had planned.
