We've spent much time and thought in preserving this final testimony to commemorate the love we shared throughout our high school years. The Photographs and Memories, the laughter and the tears. The Committee Dedication Mrs. Barbara Carrington Bom and raised in Waterbury as Barbara Jean Ciriello. our Mrs. Carrington attended Sacred Heart High School. After graduating in 1968, she attended Western Connecticut State College. Characteristic of her “get-up-and-go personality Mrs. Carrington was a very active participant in many sports and in addition to being the recipient of the Senior Athlete of the Year Award, she served as President of the Women's Athletic Association for two consecutive years. Mrs. Carrington was recognized for her academic as well as her athletic achievements. She was inducted into the National History Honor Society, Phi Alpha Theta, during her junior year and appeared in Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities the following year. Currently she is working on her masters degree at Central Connecticut State College. After receiving her degree in Social Sciences in 1972, Mrs. Carrington fulfilled her lifelong ambition of becoming a teacher by joining our teaching staff at Wilby as a member of the Social Studies Department. Formerly a religious instructions teacher, Mrs. Carrington has always taken an interest in church activities. She is now a member of the Ladies' Guild of Our Lady of Loreto Church. In addition, she has done a good deal of volunteer work, particularly with children afflicted by cerebral palsey. Mrs. Carrington presently resides in the Bunker Hill area with her husband Jim and their Keeshound. Reuben. As usual, Mrs. Carrington was involved before we recruited her talents. For two years she was the co-advisor of our school newspaper “The Emerald.” When we approached her to become class advisor, she was involved in deadlines and copy, but now she concerns herself with our spaghetti suppers, talent shows, car washes, raffles, candy sales, yearbook, and many other activities. Last but not least, Mrs. Carrington has been our class advisor for the past two years. This ever-busy woman has devoted so much of her time and energy to aid our class that it would be impossible to repay her. Without her being there to guide and encourage us, without her enthusiastic and optimistic approach, it is doubtful that our fund-raising activities could have been as successful as they were or as much fun. On a personal level, she takes a genuine interest in her students, taking time out from her hectic schedule to listen to our problems and offer advice as both a teacher and a friend. For these and so very many other reasons, we dedicate this, our yearbook, to Mrs. Carrington in the hope that she will realize how much we appreciate her and all she has done for us. We can never forget her May she never forget us. A D M I N I S T R A T I O N F A C U L T Y Here’s our faculty one and all; We hold deep in our hearts. So let your tears now freely fall. For it is time to part. They abide by the rules while imparting knowledge, tests and quizzes and homework included. They’re only trying to prepare us for college. While some of us more for detention are suited. So, on the pages that follow, please inspect The teachers we bull-doze, mock, and unnerve. Then try to show them some decent respect. I don't ask for an easy place in the line-up. Put me anywhere you need me. I only ask that I can give you 100 percent of all I have. If all the hard drives seem to come my w'ay, I thank you for the compliment. Help me remember that you never send a player more trouble than he can handle. Help me. Oh Lord, to accept the bad break as part of the game. And may 1 always play on the square, no matter what the others do. Help me study The Book so I'll know the rules. MS— Finally, God, if the natural turn of events goes against me and I’m benched for sickness or old age, please help me to accept that as part of the game, too. Keep me from whimpering or squealing that I was framed or that I got a raw deal. And when I finish the final inning. I ask for no laurels. All I want is to believe in my heart that I played as well as I could and that I didn't let you down. Kneeling: Tri Captains: Robert Bolan. As we turned each corner apprehensively, we became a little more secure in our new surroundings. We searched for friendly faces among crowds and classrooms and were rewarded as we met people and made new friends. We joined some clubs with the hope of getting involved, but before we knew it the sear had passed. COMMUNICATION SOPHOMORE YEAR We returned to Wilby with heightened expectations. Secure now, we traveled through the year increasing our involvement, meeting more people and gaining a lot of school spirit. We thought we had come a long way understanding each other better and relating outwardly to one another, but there was still much to see. experience and learn and as the doors closed again that summer, we realized that it was still, only the beginning. JUNIOR YEAR ORGANIZATION When we came back as Juniors we realized the events to come and began to get more involved with each other, than with the school itself. We began to work together as one and yet as a group. We realized the importance of individuals, of working and understand- ing each other as we planned our Junior Prom and solved all the minor problems that arose with it. We also learned of ourselves as we learned to know and love each other during the course of the year. But as the year came to a close we saw that the end was so much closer than we had thought. UNIFICATION SENIOR YEAR Our last year together! Somehow it brings people close, as they strive to be remembered. A last desperate attempt is made to stay together as one, to remember deep in the shadows of our hearts all we shared with the planning and undertaking of the final events of our last year among our high school Iriends. After the long hours of preparing for our Senior Prom and Gradua- tion, it all seems to fly by so fast and we realize that tomorrow is coming upon us faster than we wish it to, and now all we have left are memories!
