Darryl Emerson 5 PROPHECY The time is June 1, 1976. The Wilbur graduating class of 1956 is having a class reunion at the new city hall, as the old Community Center burned down two years ago. We recognize most of the faces we see here today, but some of our classmates have changed a great deal. Jane Andersen, who is National 4-H Club President, has just given a short talk of three hours and twenty minutes on how to sew on a button, which was very interesting? We didn't really expect her to tell us so much, but she is so used to giving speeches, we couldn't get her stopped. Spying Darryl Emerson, some of us went over to talk to him. He has a nice sun tan from packing peaches in Georgia. He made an interesting statement that he packs the peaches in boxes made by the Emerson Lumber Co. of Wilbur. Why look who is just coming in! It's Margaret McKay with one arm full of baby kittens and the other arm full of puppies. She says she has a whole farm of cats and dogs and just brought them along for company. Marvin Reichmann just arrived. He is still around Wilbur, but he has a motto which he lives by. It's Standing on the Corner Watching all the Girls Go By. What's that noise we hear? Why, Jim Hersey just rode up on his black stal- lion, but finding no hitching post, he must have decided to wait and come back to the next reunion, providing they become modern enough to install a hitching post. Jim has a large cattle ranch in Texas. We all had to look twice at Nancy Llewellyn as she walked in. You see, she is a woman wrestler and has gained about 2.00 pounds since we last saw her. Nancy has won every bout. Oops! I just tripped over the feet of John Watson. He has become one of the strongest men in this section of the country through his efforts stacking matches at the Diamond Match Company. Sitting next to John is Richard Dreger, who is head of a hosiery manufacturing company. He explained that his company is try- ing to produce a non-run stocking. A whole harem of models accompanied Richard here today. My what a. screech! It sounds like someone else has arrived. It's Sandy Dare sitting in a large, green Hudson just as big as day. She just explained she has bought our Hudson Incorporated. What is that odd sound? So far we can't see what is causing it. Oh! It's Danny Erickson, an Alaska Bush-pilot still on his quest for uranium. Come on down and join the rest of us. I guess Danny will be about the only one that won't be at our reunion toda An armored car just pulled up to the door. It s a peroxide blond! Ah, it s oui classmate, Colleen McMillan, who is now a famous movie star. She tells us that the reason for her going in an armored car is that in an ordinary car her fans over-power her. We learn she is also married to a farmer. Ah, two more of our well remembered classmates have just entered the door. One is Darlene Hume and she is all dressed up in her top hat and tails. She tells us she is a lion tamer at the Ringling Bros. Circus. She can even out-yowl the lions too. With Darlene is Monica Petersen with an armful of stuffed animals. She is an internationally known designer for stuffed animals. Ryan Fair just told us that he had managed to cancel his performance at Madison Square Garden to attend our reunion. He is America's leading double- jointed tap dancer. Ryan didn't have too much to say about his job as he is known by his friends as the silent type. Across the room we can see Wardine Draper, who has just invented a new type of hot rod. She has made quite la name for herself racing at Indianapolis. Wardine is talking to Red Hot Lorrett, better known to us as Lorretta Alexander. Y. I I P H fcontinuedj Loretta has just arrived from Paris where she has been working in anight club as a serenader. She is soon to start work at the famous Govan Night Club known as The Pass Out. Another member of the class who is present today is Pat Krause. Pat has just invented a silencer for back seat drivers. It seems as if she got tired of people telling her how not to drive. Oh! The phone is ringing. It is for- Gary Ladwig who is sheriff of both Lincoln and Spokane County. He just got a call about a holdup, so Gary is off in a cloud of dust. And it is about time for all of us to leave. We have had a lot of fun meeting our classmates today. Perhaps in twenty more years we will be back again and use our crutches to point out our classmates. Until then ..... a fond' farewell. WILL Part I We, the seniors of 1956 being of unsound mind, weak from all school work, foolish, dullivated, and the best looking class ever to graduate from W. H. S. do hereby bequeath to our friends and enemies, the following: Part II To our advisor, Mr. Pease, we leave a classroom which will be considerably quieter now that we are leaving. To the juniors, our rightful heirs, we bequeath our gracious acts, dignified manners and ability to go in debt. We also leave them all the rights and privi- leges that go with being seniors. To the sophomores who think they know everything, but don't we will our high intelligence. To the Student Body, we leave with the high hopes that each one of you will have as much fun as the seniors of '56' did! Part III I, LORRETTA ALEXANDER, will my hair to Mr. Siegel, Mr. Pease, and Mr. Parkins, for they need it worse than I do. To Joel Krause, I, JANE ANDERSEN, will my well trained hair-do in case he gets another Mohawk! I, DANNY ERICKSON, leave Carol Ann to walk the halls of W.H. S. alone next year. I, MARVIN RIECHMANN, will to Ronnie Custer the name of Casanova. I, PAT KRAUSE, will my cheerleading uniform to Stanley Schoolcraft. I, WARDINE DRAPER, leave one well used pamphlet on How to Get a Man to the next gal who needs it. I, GARY LADWIG, leave to Merle Pfaffle, one pair of well used rubber gears. Since I don't believe in leaving much, I, DARLENE HUME, will my ability to drive to Louise Schiebner. To Gus Wall, I, RICHARD DREGER, will my home -permanent kit. I, COLLEEN MCMILLAN, will my make-up kit to next years play cast. I, JOHN WATSON, will my box of rye-crisp to the junior girls in hopes they never look like the senior girls. I, MARGARET McKAY, will my certificate in good standing at the Wildlife to Linda Rolfe. w I fcontinuedj I, SANDY DARE, will my ingeniousness to have Mr. Parkins as a buddy to Barry McConnell. I, NANCY LLEWELLYN, will my nickname Little Beaver to anyone who wants it! I, JIM HERSEY, will my lariat to Dale Wagner in hopes he can also catch a stead . I, RIYAN FAIR, will my ability to sleep in class to Larry Hansen so that he can keep in training and have his proper rest. To the Jr. boys, I, DARRYL EMERSON, leave my theme song, You're in the Jail House Now. I, MONICA PETERSEN, leave my Buick to the Driver's Training Class in hopes they keep it as well preserved as I have. Signed and sealed this twenty-fourth day of May, in the year of our Lord, Nineteen Hundred and Fifty-six. CLASS HISTORY On September 2, 1952, twenty-four freshmen entered Wilbur High School. We were made full-fledged freshmen when the sophomores gave us a very interest- ing initiation. We got off into the swing of high school by entering into the various activities. Our Freshman Class advisor was Mr. Morgan. In the fall of 1953, as Sophomores, we walked down the halls twenty strong. The big event of that year was the intiation of the freshmen which was followed by an all-hi party. We also ordered our class rings. Mr. Siegel was our Sophomore Class advisor. In the fall of 1954 we entered Wilbur High School as Juniors. Led by Mr. Thomson we planned and presented our Junior Prom. We chose the theme of South Pacific which we worked up with very attractive decorations. We received our class rings that year. We the class of 56 began our final year advised by Mr. Pease. The first big event was our Senior Ball, Moments to Remember. Following the Senior Ball our cash reserve was depleted through an accident. But this gave us added in- centive to work harder on our Senior Play. We presented our play, Ghost Wanted, on April 13. It turned out to be a great success and much thanks is due to Mrs. Miller our director. The senior girls and senior mothers were guests at a tea given in their honor by the Civic Club. This took place on April 6. Career Day came next followed by a very much looked forward to sneak. Our sneak took place on Thursday, May 10. We traveled to Walla Walla and all spent a most enjoyable and memorable day. Our trip went well except for a small accident between Lind and Connell. On May 24, the seniors were presented with a Senior Banquet given in their honor by their parents. Baccalaureate Exercises were given on May 27, in the big gym, and on June 1, eighteen sorrowful yet happy seniors received their diplomas, signifying that they are ready to lead rather than follow, thus carrying out our class motto. Our class c'olors are burgundy and white, and our flower is the white rose bud. 9 , ,Q r ,gia b gy ,V 1, ,Q ' J i 2 f rw ,Y K Q N it v' Roger Jensen, Joel Krause, Lois Scheibner, E Kg!! .g,, 1!!g!!iL L f e L ' 7 ee i bm L , gliL Z , L W : ' ' ' ,Q I fl !W?5vyWEnF Barry McConnell, Hal Ring 'Vi I I ' . .,.. . ..
