guidance program successful The c0unselor's work does not infringe upon or conflict with the duties or responsibilities of the administrator, teacher, or any other member of the school staff. His services are supplemen- tary to those rendered by other staff members and enable each one to func- tion more effectively. General duties of the counselor involve being available for individual student conferences so that the student may come to an understand- ing of himself in relation to the social and psy- chological world in which he lives. The counselor should help the indi- vidual accept himself as he is, his emotional strengths and weakness- es. Another duty would be to interpret informa- tion about pupils, such as test scores, to them- selves, to parents, to teachetrs, to o t li e r s who are professionally concerned. A final duty would be to have an open door, open mind, and an open ear for students, parents, and teachers in order to more effectively deal with the problems that occur in the daily rou- tine of school.
