Every- one must be heard and no one can be left out. The long summer hours spent filling out schedules, plus the school hours spent making sug- gestions and finding information, all blend in together to form help- ful guidance in preparation for the future. A school cannot he complete without a qualified counselor or a competent student council advisor. We are fortunate to have both in one person. For providing the leadership we need most, we have chosen to express our appreciation through the dedi- cation of the 1973 Comet to KEITH STRAUGHN. t Si v.,, , 'wax you're a good 1,MTf,., N., rp' , ,, eff . , ff A friend, keith sfraughn A, . But it is the man- ner with which they handle these prob- lems that makes them uncommon people. They are able to maintain good discipline and smooth relations with the students and faculty. It is extremely important to a school to have leadership that works to magnify its good qualities, while not forgetting its problems and needs. Mills is fortunate to have leaders that do just that. Calming down the hassle of the office, and preventing it, keeps Mrs. Reynolds and Mrs. Houser busy each school day of the year. With Mrs. Reynolds taking care of the secretarial duties, and Mrs. Houser the financial affairs, they organize the office staff and keep all running smoothly. in '3 fl! At their monthly meetings, they have had guest speakers such as Bill Burnett, a former Arkansas Razorback, and Chuck Beil, who graduated from the Virginia Military Institute. They also attended banquets during the year to hear athletic celebrities speak. The United Nations Committee is a group of history students chosen by Mrs. Lorraine Smith and Mrs. Scotta Sheets, who also sponsor the group. This year they attended the Mock United Nations in Conway. They were given Turkey as a country to represent. After several weeks of re- search oli that country they were able to make de- cisions at the United Nations that the delegates of that country would have made. The Youth and Government Club is an or- ganization for high school students who would like to gain a richer understanding of the heritage and history oi our democratic way of life. They learned activities such as Model Legislative pro- grams and the practice of writing bills. Both teams battled without scor- ing for almost 3X4 of the game until Iohn Davie blocked a Subiaco punt. This gave Randy Hickox the opportunity to score. Mills, second win was over the Sheridan Yellowjaclicts. Sheridan led the game at the half with a score or 70. Then in the third quarter, after a 65 yard drive, lack Lemmons scored and Fletcher Harrison made the PAT. Sheridan scored again in the last quarter but fail' ed to make their PAT. We wanted everybody represented as a school body together. We had some problems with those of us who had acute senioritus, juniors wrih budding senioritus, sophomores with the start of the junior itch, and teachers always avoiding the camera. But as we worked, problems seemed to diminish and we can, with a sigh of relief and a certain amount of pride, deliver the 1972-73 annual to our students and faculty.
