X QQ-X -u-'P -1a1 1-1- Svnphnmnrn Gilman iguatnrg Durmg th1s year the class of 31 has become a un1t In all thmgs that we d1d we acted together And as a unlfied class IS a strong class we have reason to belxeve that we have accompl1shed somethxng well worth whlle Another thmg we ga1ned as a class was a sense of respons1b1l1ty To those of us who were glven chevrons came added dut1es as Corporals of the guard Just one Jump ahead of the pnvates In fact after havlng five Sunday tours ln one term there are those who ma1nta1n that prrvates have the best of the matter Our first attempt at Hop management was a great success thls even the present Second Class has admltted due to the work of the Comm1ttee and the oflicxal hand shaker who had a w11l1ng and helpful class behmcl them Everythlng would have been perfect 1f rt had not been for the Ind1an who put the class 1n debt because of h1s gear jugglmg Our next publlc appear ance came w1th the Sophomore Declamatlons Elght of the class competed for the Pollock Pnze whxch 1VIcWethy the lad w1th the grft of gab won w1th h1s eloquent verslon of The Perfect Trlbute Lelpold came ln a close sec ond w1th Stock and Rask1n on h1s heels In scholarshtp we were ably represented by Mlller who after be1ng pur sued by Sammy Lew1s for n1ne months cllmbed up to the ranks of the Barr ed Sxx In sports our class contrlbuted no few stars Football B1ddle Brennan Brown Challenger Lewms Mxller Rothermel Warren and W1lson a galaxy of stars In Basketball the Sophs were really there w1th Brown Brennan Mlller and Warren dolng the ball tosslng Brennan got qulte a reputat1on for scar 1ng h1s man w1th the nonchalant way he handled the ball He IS Captaln elect To the R1f1e team the Class gave Burton who came 1n second 1n the Corps Area match V13 the shoot off Dechert Flnn who was hlgh man of the Inter Class match Llster and Klrkpatrrck To the Gym team our Class contrrbuted qualxty and not quantxty 1n W1lson who won the pr1ze for excellence 1n Indoor Athlet1cs Box1ng Ah who hasnt heard of thrrty second Dlago and of Kane the phantom of the rmg? Rask1n Irwm and Stock gave these fellows l1ve1y competltlon rn the ranks of Naulty s maulers In Baseball Brown Kane Mlller and Warren w11l carry on for the class For Polo we offer K1rkpatr1ck and Slgel the hrtless wonders who amaze Cap Hyatt w1th thelr versat1l1ty Our Class R1fle team won the Inter class match and our basketball team came 1n second losmg by one polnt 1n the finals The year has been a very successful one for the class of Thirty One and w1th the exceptlon of loslng three good men, Hardre, Irwm and Stock, the Class came through the year unscathed, and much the wrser for the experx ence ga1ned dunng the year.
