Our first taste of high school life came with the election of our freshman class officers: Jennie Trivit president; Susan Montgomery, vice president; Ann Meilhammer, secretary; and David Malone, treasurer. We the entered our first senior fair with a sand dip with hopes of raising enough money for our homecoming float. With tf money, we built our first float entitled “Mickey Marches Wi-Hi to Victory”. Mickey won us a proud place finish ar homecoming attendants Connie Hoprich and Lisa Smith made us even more proud to be freshmen. With guidance froi our advisors Mrs. Elmore and Mr. Majors, we began our first and very successful money maker, the M M sales. At A Sports Night, we pulled out a last place finish due to lack of participation. As the year ended we were ready to move c to an even better sophomore year. Our Sophomore class officers were: Ann Meilhammer, president; Leigh Hurley, vice president; Sandy Laytoi secretary; and Susan Steelman, treasurer. Our advisors were Mrs. J. Jones and Mr. Blankenship. At the senior fair w had our unforgettable shaving cream booth which brought us money and a big mess! Our homecoming float “Wi-F Takes the Gold” brought us a first place finish and our homecoming attendants were Jennie Trivits and Conni Hoprich. At All Sports Night, we did a little better with a third place finish. Sophomore fund raisers included bake sales slave day and a donation day. Our important Junior year started off with electing our class officers: Ann Meilhammer, president; Leigh Hurley, vie president; Jill Nock, secretary; and Sandy Layton, treasurer. This year we knew we had to make a lot of money for w had the junior Senior Banquet to hold in the spring. Our advisors, Mr. Cross and Miss Stephenson helped u tremendously in making the needed money. At the senior fair we had a balloon burst and a disappointing Junior floa “It’s No Lie Wi-Hi 1” brought us a last place finish. Our homecoming attendants, Connie Hoprich and Lisa Whib made up for the disappointing float. As a fund raiser we sold candy sticks which made us all the money needed to pu on a very successful Junior Senior Banquet. In March we won a second place finish at All Sports Night. Also in th spring, we started to order our class rings which made us realize our senior year was not far away. To start things off, we elected our senior class officers: Ann Meilhammer, president; Leigh Hurley, vice president Denise Kimes, treasurer; David Moreno, secretary; and Barbi Beach, historian. In August we had our senior portrait: taken and by December we were swapping photos with fellow seniors. This year, for our last homecoming, we mad banners instead of the traditional floats. Our banner, with Humpty Dumpty as our main character, using the Nursery Rhyme theme, won first place. Our homecoming attendants were Vonda Goslee and Lisa White and Monica Bowder was our 1982 Homecoming queen. Next we had the Senior Fair to handle. We soon found out that being in charge of ii wasn’t as easy as we had expected! Nevertheless, we still made some money and had a lot of fun doing it. In Novembei we started our biggest money maker - the candy bar sales, with help from our advisors, Mrs. Cox, Mr. Underwood anc Mr. Burgess. This went over very well as we made the necessary money for our upcoming prom. All Sports Night was held in March and we proudly took home the first place trophy. In early April our announcements and namecards came in. We all realized our graduation was almost here. Also in April, we were given a wonderful Junior Senior Banquet by the Juniors and class awards were given out. Next on our senior agenda was the prom. Since this was one of the most important events on our senior calendar we wanted to make it a night to remember. Our class song was the Theme From Mahogany”, our class colors were dark blue and silver, and our flower tvas the rose. On May 21, the Civic Center was beautifully decorated with streamers and other fancy decorations relating to our Stairway to Heaven theme. Crossroads was the band and after the prom we were treated to a prom breakfast by our parents. The following Monday in school we practiced for Baccalaureate which was held the next Tuesday night. Also that Monday we received our caps and gowns and we had our class picture taken. The Wednesday night after Baccalaureate we had our senior awards program. The only thing left after that was graduation — June 3, the night we had all been awaiting for so long. That was the last time we would all be together as the graduating class of 1982. And so farewell to these brief years and let us now move onward to the mountains we have yet to climb. The class was led by four charming officers: Addie Armstrong, Tracey Greene, Ruth Richins, and Lori Shockley. Autumn began a busy year of fund raisers. Throughout the soccer season bake sales were held at all the home games. The Soft Ball Throw at WiHi’s senior fair was our first major fund raiser. Even though the fair did not have a big turn out, we didn t lose hope. In January we began our long and lucrative candy stick sale. This was our best fund raiser all year making over $1000.00. We also held a yard sale raising over $175.00. The class of 83 won third place in the homecoming banner contest. The attendants for the homecoming court were the lovely Debbie Gaddis and Lorraine Ryan. There was so much participation in ‘All Sports Night” from the Juniors that we finally made second place. Officers of the class hosted the Jr. Sr. Banquet with the catering by many of their parents. A wide variety of music was supplied by the DJ’s from WJDY. The 1982 Jr. Sr. Banquet served 250 people making it the most successful in WiHi’s history. The Junior class certainly had a very eventful year with many happy memories and much to look forward to. Also the class extends a very special thanks to Miss Ann Stevenson and to Mr. Charles Cross, without whom there would be no Junior class history. A deficit in our treasury urged us to get moving with money making projects. We entered the Senior Fair with a toilet seat booth and a dart and balloon game. Those brought us out of debt and started us on our way to paying for our Homecoming costs. Homecoming was an exciting time. The banner took a great deal of organization to have finished in the six short hours we had. Our theme, “WiHi Burns Kent”, was a success as we placed second in the competition. Melissa Payne and Lauren Dianich represented us in the Homecoming court. We tried a new fund raising idea by selling corsages and boutonnieres for the Homecoming dance. Later in the year we had a bake sale which added more money to our treasury. At all Sports Night we held onto our third place position from last year with hopes that we can work our way up during the next two years. We finished the year by selling WiHi silkscreened long-sleeved T-shirts. We hoped this project would provide us with the extra funds needed for our Junior year. A very special thanks goes to our class officers and advisors, who made this year a success. But by the time the Senior Fair rolled around we were ready. We started out the year with many fund raisers. The first was the Senior Fair, in which we didn’t make any money, but we didn’t lost any either. Next we tried a wreath and bake sale at Christmas Land and made $150.00, our best money making project of the year. We had other money contributions to the class and ended the year with a total of $167.39 in our treasury. Homecoming was an exciting and new event to us. Our banner’s theme was “Humpty Dumpty” and even though we came in fourth place it was good experience. Representing the Freshman Class on the Homecoming Court were Mary Lou Gallis and Felicia Dorman. Representing the class as officers were Rhonda Watkinson, Mark Darby, Diana Mears, and Phil Lacey. A special thanks goes to the entire Freshman Class for their support, spirit, and participation throughout the year. And to Mr. Thomas Mumford our friend, Guidance Counselor and class advisor who helped us get on our feet to a successful four years as the class of ’85. The week of November 2, the cheerleaders held their annual spirit week. This year there was in inside-out day, jersey day, hillbilly day, color day and the most popular of them all, punk rock day. Students showed their spirit by dressing appropriately for each day. Since the cost of float building materials seemed to rise greatly over the past year, each class entered a “banner” instead of the traditional float. Artwork with the theme of Nursery Rhymes covered the queen sized bed sheet. Even though this was the first year for banners, each class turned in an outstanding entry. The football team, with the outstanding performance of Tony Bateman, pulled off another homecoming victory with a score of 26-0 over the Easton Warriors. n; h; 82 IMS A JL Tjtff Mftf IWL M ' T FVT ?Z ffTWR Ae A, S3... This year we had some¬ thing different as the parents surprised us with an outdoor Grand March. The side of the Civic Center was the perfect place as everyone could see the couples a lot better. The outdoor march consisted of two columns fully decorated with flowers. Our class song. Theme of Mahogany, played through most of the grand march. Our class colors were dark blue and silver, our flower was the rose, and the band was Crossroads. After the prom, our parents provided us with a prom breakfast which lasted from 1:00 to 3:00 a.m. All of our work must have really paid off as everyone there seemed to enjoy themselves. 122 N9OOV0I- CO m 2 C G- SPORTS Lisa will do anything to get attention The latest in nightwear Generating school spirit and supporting the various athletic teams were full time jobs for the Wi-Hi Cheer¬ leaders in 1981-82. Led by varsity captains Jenny Tri- vits and Connie Hoprich, they sponsored a pep rally appropriately named “Pajamas on Parade” which end¬ ed a week long campaign to build support for the 1981 Homecoming. They sponsored a cheerleading clinic with 245 eager future cheerleading hopefuls in attendance. One of the major highlights of the Varsity Squad was placing first in the Golden Eagle Competition in Gettys¬ burg, PA. Allison Dawson and Sheila White shared the captain duties for the J.V. Squad. The Football team had an outstanding season with an 8-2 record. Included in those eight wins were impressive victories over Parkside 20-0 and JMB 24-7 to win the City Championship. Tony Bateman rushed for 1005 yd. and was selected as the team’s MVP. Tony was chosen as the MVP in the Bayside Conference. Other honors went to Scott Barber, “Offensive Lineman of the Year”; Martin Blakney, “Defensive Player of the Year”; and Jeff Reddish “Player of the Year”. The Indians were a small squad in both size and number this year with just 31 players on the Varsity Squad. The Indians constantly played against teams that outweighed them on line of scrimmage, however our players proved that “it is not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog” that makes the difference. The guys finished second in the state with a tough 8-3 loss to Great Mills. Senior Dean White was named MVP for his outstanding pitching efforts throughout the year and his excellent defensive play at shortstop. Senior Alex Davis had a fine year with 29 walks and many great saves at first base. Ritchie Gray stroked 6 HR’s this year and Senior catcher Scott Barber made his presence known to many would-be base stealers. The team will miss these seniors next year but veteran players Bruce Matthews, Willie Benton, Nick Gis¬ mondi, Craig Shreeves and Keith Middleton could be the nucleus of another great team.
