In a way these past four years together have been like that single step for all of us. And now we’ve begun our own unique journeys, toward whatever future lies ahead of us. Yet on our journeys, we will probably all look back upon these four years and remember the times, both good and bad, that we had here at Wi-Hi. Each of us will recall different things, for each of us is a special, individual person. We might remember that as Juniors, our football team won the county championship, and, at the same time, our float was judged the best in the homecoming parade. And while we’re on the subject of homecoming, we can be proud of the fact that our Senior homecoming was funded totally by money raised by our own efforts, and it was unnecessary to borrow any¬ thing from the student government. Our senior class play Up the Down Staircase will be noted as having broken box office records and having been the best and best attended play that Wi-Hi has produced yet. Our Junior year also saw the founding of the Varsity Club at Wi-Hi, to promote interest in school sports. We have helped as Juniors and Seniors, to produce an outstanding basketball team, either by actively participating or by lending moral support. Our band too, has truly been a fine one during the years we have been here, aided by numerous members of the class of 74”. And our prom can boast of being the best attended in the last eight years at Wi-Hi. But I think that maybe there are some other things that we’ll remember too. Things that are common feelings to all of us. We’ll remember the times we worked together in clubs or class meetings, where we planned everything from road rallies to dances to what color paper to use for prom decorations. We’ll remember the things we learned at Wi-Hi, not just in the sense of book-learning, but in the sense that we found out something about life, and about the people around us, and most importantly, we found out something about ourselves. For all of us, these past four years have been a growing experience. Our class colors, light green and dark green, are colors of life and growth and are therefore fitting symbols of the times we have spent here. We have grown from young, immature children to young men and women who stand at the threshold of adulthood. We will remember these years where we changed so much. At times these four years seemed as if they could never end, and yet now, looking back we may pause and wonder where they have gone. But most of all, we will remember the friends we made here and the good times we had with them. We 11 remember meeting new people with new ideas, and how our lives have been made fuller by knowing these people. Many of us when we leave here tonight, may never meet again. But no amount of time and space can ever take away from us our memories, and the sense of belonging that we can have as part of the class of 74”. I only hope and pray that each and every one of us may find the strength and the hope to face the paths that lie before us. For some the path will be dark and rough. But at last we will look back and see that what lay behind was only a base. A base upon which to build the far greater things that are to come. Your class has a certain meaning to me, since we share a very common experience. We came to this school together in 1971, and now your time has come to leave and take your place in society, in whatever role you choose. My warm hope and desire for each of you is that you are a better person both academically and personally after having spent three years with us. My thoughts and best wishes go with you as you venture out into the field of your choice. You shall encounter success and frustrations, happiness and sadness, but through it all, maintain an optimistic and positive attitude. This sort of attitude along with hard work will usually see you through most problem areas. I shall look forward to meeting and seeing you again over the years. Your successes will be a source of pride for me, and I shall feel your frustrations with you. As you look back to your three years at WiHi, I hope you will remember it as a time in which your academic desires were fulfilled, in which you grew in character, and in which you developed into a positive and constructive citizen. Again, I wish each of you well in whatever you might do and hope you will visit with us over the years. Warmest personal regards, W.
