Page 5 text: “THEY HAVE CAUSED US TO BE BETTER With genuine respect and sincere gratitude for their gifts of service and inspiration to the generations of students of Wicomico Senior High School, we the Class of 1970 dedicate this yearbook to two outstanding teachers, Mr. Dalton i . Howard and Mr. J. Morris Jones. Occasionally an event is so fortunately right and proper that it seems entirely inevitable. Such an action is this dedication of a Wi Hi yearbook to Mr. Howard and Mr. Jones. Many students have heard, even if they have no adequate concept of the significance of the fact, that Mr. Howard and Mr. Jones have taught at Wi Hi since 1928. Some have heard their parents tell of tfre •p owh e M d m n wh ew t hey ww (s from Mr. Howard and POD fro m Mr. Jones. Even the best inf ormed, however, of the current student body would have difficulty in assessing the true valu of lie contributions of two men to this school and this community, for their lives have touched young people in their formative years for more than f fur decades| and each man in his own way has exerted deea and lasting influence. Those of tills present year who have sat in Mr. Howard’s ancNMbr. Jones ' s classes should be especially thankful in the knowledge that they have shared in the fruits of accumulated wis¬ dom and insight which have helped literally thousand of otherswho have passed through Wi Hi before them. It is especially fining that thif earbook is dedicated to the two men more responsible than any others for the development of the TOM-TOM, Mr. Jones having served not only as business adviser evej: stniap r|ic yp rhnnk as re-established after a. lapse during the Depres¬ sion but as editorial adviser a good part WfJhJfB recently as photographer and photograph served as student editor in 19o6, ins i student editor in 1961, and his son as pb Dalton B. Howard and Mr. J. Morris Jor have meant to them. Faculty members who have worked with Mr. Jones and Mr. Howard think of them, because of their long and deep friendship, as a team, although we appreciate the unique personality and the indivlduality br anch one. We who have been privileged to be a part of the same faculty with Mr. Dalton B. Howard and Mr. J. Morris Jones join the Class of 1970 in thanking them for what they mean to Wi Hi and to us and wishing them the richest of continued blessings. A special tribute, h owever, in additions the, dedjj iiaiLflf the 1’OM-TOM to Mr. Howard and Mr. Jones, is in ord er for one who has served Wi Hi, its students, and its alumni devotedly in a unique capacity. Misinrobf A. Fallow has served as counselor ever since Wicomico Senior High has been in its present location. Her interest in the future education, vocational employment, and personal adjustment of all Wi Hi students has led her to give countless hours to others when her own physical condition has made her concentrated effort difficult and painful. Only her remarkable spirit and her outstanding concern for young people have driven her to continue to work when it would have been easy to justify stopping. In spite of her own illness, Miss Farlow has counseled students concerning college, has helped them find jobs, and has always encouraged them to make wise personal choices. Her knowledge of the traditions of our school and her attention to the details of our ceremonies have added dignity and meaning to our proms, our com¬ mencements, and other memorable events. In often thankless tasks. Miss Farlow has shown again and again her mastery of the art of making things smoother and better for others. To work with Miss Hester Farlow has been to be inspired by her courage and chal¬ lenged by her skill. Few people have her ability to work so efficiently while they are in pain; even fewer have demonstrated her amazing recuperative powers. All of us at Wi Hi will miss her after her retirement, and we pray for her strength, health, and happiness in the years ahead. wLt — time, and Mr. Howard having served until J pjer.
