a FOREWORD from an inexperienced adviser ... CHANGE has reverberated through Wicomico Senior High School this year. Few things have escaped its touch: the sound of class bells has almost ceased entirely and so has the parade of many student voices that wheezed hurried reminders at the 3:40 announcements. Now, teachers - instead of buzzers - dismiss classes; and from the office, one clear voice proclaims all the worthy news unhurriedly at the end of the day. Remember the ear-shattering screams from the box on the wall of the old days that reminded you to attend the class play or recall the vocal chorus that hurrayed you (to the tune of 600 volts) that we were going to beat the stuffings - to say the least - out of a hocker and sockey team from James M. what’s-his-face? ... My, it seems so long ago! Indeed, it is difficult to remember how things used to be. But our many changes have produced many improvements so there need be but little remembrance of things past - a backward glance for old times’ sake will do no harm. But the matter at hand is this publication, THE 1969 TOM TOM, which, I hope, captures some of the spirit of change about which I have just been speaking. If there is no change evident, I am sorry for all the time that has been wasted. The 1969 TOM TOM is an annual that is published BY and FOR Wicomico Senior High School. It belongs to no part, group, class, or individual; but it exists for the complete school. I have zealously tried to exert every influence at all times to bring this about. Your yearbook should not glorify any select few nor should it benefit anybody or anything smaller than WICOMICO SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL itself. The TOM TOM is not merely a memory book or a collection of pages which you will hastily fill with autographs or mustaches. It is a record of the school year 1968-1969. It tries to touch life here at school and register events that occurred. This it does wherever time, energy, photographs, and photog¬ raphers were available. I am sorry that much has been omitted, but I am pleased that it has been possible to include so much. As you see, the TOM TOM has grown this year - and I hope that it will continue to grow. - Juniors, why not push for photographs of yourselves that are larger than a postage stamp? - Sophomores, you are not to be out-done by anyone else around here, are you? Who ever said that a senior picture should be 10 times larger than that of a junior? Do you mean that juniors are only l 10th as good ...? I hope that there are many answers for these questions. I hope that future editions of the TOM TOM will be perfect. Here, in this edition, perfection has not yet come. Just as the many changes have made Wi Hi a better - rather than perfect - school, the TOM TOM also looks to the future for that first, perfect year ... But for the time at hand, let’s stop looking at years, perfection, and all the rest; let’s start looking at some good WI Hl’ers; let’s look at the 1969 TOM TOM. W. A. BLOODSWORTH Adviser
