Senior Class Mist cry In September of 1964, as Sophomores, the class of 1967 began three memorable years of high school life. Our chance to participate in an activity as a class came with our first Homecoming The Sophomore representative was Cindy Hubbert. The Winter Carnival followed on January 29, and the Sophomore class elected Nancy Beahm as its attendant. In May, as spring rounded the corner, the Sophomore class was ably represented at the May Dance Showboat by Darlene Hall, Tudy Longest and Cindy Hubbert. 6 After three months of summer jobs, sun and sand, and just plain loafing, we re¬ turned as Juniors. Pleased with our new status, we looked forward to making our mark as upperclassmen. Our first task was to elect class officers which included Bud Elzey, lesident, Deane Hudson, Vice President; Darlene Hall, Secretary; and Cindy Hubbert, Treasurer. The Junior Class was also honored to have four executives on the Student Council: Neil Messick, 2nd Vice President: Mary Ellen Harrison, 3rd Vice President; Darlene Hall, Secretary; and David Cantrell, Treasurer. During Homecoming of our Junior year, we again chose Cindy Hubbert to represent our class at the ceremony. Elected as Junior attendant at the Winter Carnival was Darlene Hall. The Junior Class plays were presented in March. An all-girl cast starred in the humorous spy spoof Spy Me This One. Not to be outdone, the boys presented the tragedy Submerged. The next month, Sandra Lohrfink and Ellen Givans were selected by the Tunior Class to be May Court attendants. Our Junior year ended with the traditional Junior-Senior Banquet on March 27. Again after three months of summer vacation, we returned with the superior status of being Seniors. Leading the Student Council as officers were seniors Neil Messick Piesident, Darlene Hall, 1st Vice President; and Janice Shaffer, Parliamentarian. The resuits of the Senior Class elections were: Billy Hyle, President; Heather Woodman, ice President, Judy Longest, Secretary; David Cantrell, Treasurer, and Pat Hitch Historian. ’ The editors of school publications and their staffs rushed to meet deadlines as the 7»f ni u r ear r ° Ued ° n ’ Editors deluded: Janice Shaffer, Tom-Tom; Karen Brittingham Wi-Hi News; and Bill Taylor, Indian Chant. Our exchange student was Christopher Long from Swaziland, South Africa. Homecoming Queen for 1966-67 was Debbie Swaney, attended by Seniors Nancv Beahm and Toni Truitt. The 1967 basketball team had a winning season, ending the year at College Park participating in the State Championships. Before qualifying for State Finals, Wi-Hi tromped their cross town rivals Bennett at the Civic Center. The Senior dramatic students presented the fantasy The Wizard of Oz as the Senior Class Play. Judy Longest reigned as queen over the delightful Winter Carnival. Also successful were the two spring dances--the Twirp Dance and the May Dance. On May 26, the Senior Class traveled to Washington on the Senior Class trip. The day was climaxed by a memorable midnight cruise up the Potomac. The Senior Prom finally arrived with the beauty and splendor of a Polynesian Paradise. J Commencement and graduation followed all too soon, and then--it ended Our high school days at Wi-Hi were completed. Duiing the years at Wi-Hi, we have learned a great deal. Minds have been sharpened, social attitudes have been formed, and ambitions have been shaped and nurtured. Most importantly, we have established ourselves as individuals. Each of us has his own Impossible Dream and in the future, with the grace and the guidance of God, we shall reach the unreachable star. 22
