CLASS COLORS — Blue and White CLASS FLOWER — Forget -me-not CLASS MOTTO — Success is by acting, not wishing Fifteen Senior Hass History FRESHMAN YEAR After all of our years in grammar school, we have at last reached the most interesting and exciting part of school life, Freshmen at Wicomico High. In room 25, there were only boys. It became known as the Bachelor Club and all of the boys were very proud of the title. Our most interesting class was science. We were fascinated by the experiments we saw in the Lab. We did not have many interests as Freshies but some of us did take part in May Day and Field Day. SOPHOMORE YEAR Back to school as Simple Sophomores . Girls and boys were placed together this year in Homerooms 24 and 25. Many transfers came to our class and in this way it was greatly enlarged. Our interest began to widen also. We took part in varsity and intra¬ mural sports, Ensemble, Press Club, Wi-Hi News Staff, and a musical, The Spirit of ' 47 ' ' , under the capable direction of Mr. Granville Eagler. All summer we looked forward with anticipation to the coming year when we would be luniors. JUNIOR YEAR This year the first thing we decided to do was elect our class officers. They were Bill Malone, President; Lacy Austin, Vice President; Virginia Christian, Treasurer; Norma Elliott, Secretary. We then started to work on the class play. There were many of us who tried out for it and after many weeks of practice came our play, Sneak Date . It was very successful and our thanks go to Miss Farlow and Miss Stewart for their help in making it possible. The Junior-Senior Banquet required much of our time after the play. We had fun decorating the cafeteria and getting ready for the big night. Everyone had a good time. We began to wonder what the next year would have in store for us. SENIOR YEAR Seniors at last. This year was by far the most wonderful year. We were all busy with one thing or another. Getting the newspaper out every two weeks was quite a dif¬ ficult job for our editor, Nancy Richardson. Work on the Yearbook required the efforts of all the Seniors and there was the Student Council which took much of our time also. Other activities were Press Club, Dramatic Club, and Key Club. Some of us were in the operetta H. M. S. Pinafore . Athletics, in which we were all interested, were under the direction of Miss Mary Morling Troy, Mr. Charles Berry, and Mr. Sam Siedel. Our class officers were Bill Kniceley, President; Lloyd Harrington, Vice-President; Norma Elliott, Secretary; Rodney Johnson, Treasurer; Betty Calcott, Historian. This was the year we had all looked forward to. Senior Prom, Junior-Senior Banquet, Senior Class Play and May Day. Now we regret¬ fully leave Wi-Hi with our memories and our thanks to the faculty and principal who have made our days here so pleasant. Sixteen Historian, Betty Calcott We, the members of the Senior Class, which is the class of nineteen hundred and forty- nine of Wicomico High School in Salisbury, that is in Wicomico County, in the State of Maryland, in the country of the United States, on the continent of North America, on the planet named Earth, being in as sound a mind and body as possibly can be expected after years of hard work, have reached the end. To our new coach, Miss Troy, we surely can say thank you. The soccer team had an average year. The boys were young, but with the good coaching of Mr. Seidel they got experience which they hope will help them next year. The football squad did a good job. They welcome Coach Berry back to Wi-Hi. They also had young boys, so they will be keeping the most of the squad for next year. Thanks to those boys who will be leaving, for a wonderful job. The team enjoyed playing under the lights on their own field. Thanks to the P.T.A., for giving us the thing we had dreamed of for so long. The basketball teams had a hard schedule, but the girls and the boys both did a fine job of bringing home many victories for the school. The girls ' basketball team made a fine showing for the year, with the excellent coach¬ ing of Miss Troy. The girls really took over at the beginning of the season, but made several bows to opposing teams. All in all the team did a splendid job. The boys ' basketball team had a victorious year, with only three losses; they deserve all the thanks we can give them. To the boys we say, Well Done . Thanks to M r. Seidel for the valuable coaching he gave them. The basketball team will keep most of the squad for next year. Congratulations to the boys who played in the play-offs for state champion¬ ships, for the excellent games. Three cheers for both the girls and boys, on all of the Wi-Hi athletic teams.
