Mr. J. R. Kraps, Principal B.A. , M.Ed. Ohio University The Wick this year has been dedicated to the citizens of Wickliffe and it is an appro- priate dedication. The citizens of our community have voiced their opinion as to their desire for a new education center for their high school age sons and daughters. It is rea- sonable to believe that the voters of the community want to invest their money wisely. The voters in Wickliffe have invested about a million and six hundred thousand dol- lars in the new high school building. The building will last about fifty years so this is a cost of thirty two thousand dollars per year. By breaking it down it would be about eight dollars per family per year. What do we get for eight dollars per year per family from the new high school building? For the next fifty years there will be about 10, 000 boys and girls graduating from this building. This in itself is a great investment. What this building will do for these young people can be partially measured, but a great amount of help which this building lends to the educational development of the pupils will remain for all practicable pur- poses unmeasurable. Pleasant surroundings, adequate light, cleanness, space where space is needed are a few added attractions. Can we measure these items in a new home or a new high school building? More specific items of educational advancements would be modern science labs, home economics labs, Industrial Arts labs, business educational labs, besides up-to- date equipment that are in these laboratories and academic classrooms. Other items that we don't think of at first are acoustical ceilings, sun control drapery, etc. All of these features help make teaching and leaming more enjoyable and more actual thinking takes place in an improved physical environment. We extend to the people of Wickliffe our sincere appreciation for providing the new high school building and grounds . The faculty is better able to cope with the education of the students and the pupils are more receptive to learning in this fine building. The people of the community have given of their time and money for the erection of the new high school, we on the school staff will give of our time and talents to educate the young people, and the students will give in return of their abilities toward the future growth of an educated and alert citizenry. I. R. Kraps 5
