ART The art student in Wichita Falls Senior High acquires skills which may lead to a career or fill many leisure hours with pleasure. The beginning student works on drawing, sketching, printing, painting, clay sculpture and copper enameling. Other students experiment with oil painting and advertising. The art department sponsors The Coyote yearbook and undertakes many useful projects, such as recent decorations for Sheppard Air Force Base and color- ful posters similar to the ones on Americanism touring the public schools. This departmentls generous use of its talent adds beauty to the community in many ways. JOYCE SAMUELS, M.A. MATTYE MAE HAYNIE M Ed Columbia University Texas Woman's Universlty Sponsor of The Coyote I Fourth-year art students gain skill in oil painting. MAJOR HUBERT D. BYOUS, M.S. LT. CHARLES T. BYARS BS East Texas State College Midwestern University The National Defense Cadet Corps battle group is now training future officers and servicemen. These students are preparing for positions of leadership by attaining basic military skills and a general knowledge of military science. This group puts to practice such qualities as self-discipline and leadership, which provide preparation for the mental strains of modern life and insure a greater amount of maturity. Through his service, each cadet can realize the full satisfaction of citizenship.

SPEECH The ability to express ideas correctly and dis- tinctly is of primary importance in the world of today and of tomorrow. The speech department of WFSH gives students the opportunity to de- velop this necessary talent. In speaking, they not only learn to organize facts and present them in a convincing manner but also gain poise and self-confidence. The student who wishes to enter the field of drama may advance from the Ama- teur Guild into the National Thespian Society. Those interested in radio and television or in stagecraft find courses available for them. The speech department maintains an excellence that makes it a credit to WFSH. Stagecraft students are busy making scenery for a play MACK L KECK MS HADDON F MALONE MS The Safety Education Drivers' Training course can measure its accomplishments by the reduc tion of traffic accidents. This course helps the student acquire the habit of safe driving while preparing him for his license. After classroom instruction in driving techniques, the student puts his knowledge to work under careful super vision and in the safety of a dual controlled car This combination of instruction and practice produces a lasting impression of safety upon the driving student who will strive to make driving safer in this community and state.

Music gives feeling to the school song and creates a lasting impression for each student. The beauty of music is fully enjoyed at WFSH through the efforts of the music department. The school and the community profit from the accomplishments of students in band, choir and orches- tra. The achievements of these talented students certainly reflect well the training given them here.
