Imagine a world without music! Surely it would be a world devoid of feelings. Students in the orchestra, a cappella choir, and Coyote Band gain an appreciation of music that is invaluable for the rest of their lives. Its members serve in various musical organizations and play and sing for activities of importance to the community. The fine quality of the performances given by the music department can be attributed to the caliber of the instructors. The music department of WFSH is a vital factor in the lives of citizens of Wichita Falls. SPEECH The beginning speech student overcomes his fear of standing before a group soon after the course begins. After learning the fundamentals of public speaking, he may advance into debate. The debate student quickly learns to organize facts and present them in a convincing manner. He may go on into Amateur Guild or the National Thespian Society where finer points of the art of dramatics are learned. Radio-TV and Stagecraft are courses for the student interested in these specific fields. Each year the speech department participates in Texas interscholastic League competition. In past years its members have established a record that makes the school proud of its speech department. H. BEDFORD FURR, M.A. Southern Methodist University Sponsor of National Forensic League MRS. Latin, in providing a foundation for the Romance languages, paves the road for the student who wishes to continue his study of languages. Latin is an invaluable aid to the pros- pective lawyer or doctor and even to the individual who recognizes the Latin derivations in his read- ing. Therein lies the value of Latin as an asset in the future years. SPANISH This department of WFSH, under the direction of excellent instructors, has opened new doors of interest and learning to many students. Spanish not only provides the students with a better knowledge of the people and history of the Latin-America countries but also stimulates a desire to further the goodwill and understanding between the United States and its neighbors to the south. Many other cries are heard throughout the year as the girls and boys participate in volleyball, baseball and basketball. During the second semester all gym classes prepare for the gym show where a variety of exercises, sports and gymnastics are presented for the public. The importance of learning to participate in all sports in the right man- ner is stressed in all physical education classes. Volleyball always proves exciting. PERRY GOOLSBY, M.Ed.
