MRS. DOROTHY THOMPSON CARLOS L. BROWN, M.S. M.Ed. North Texas State College Midwestern University Sponsor of Chemistry Club SCIENCE Hardly a day passes but that the science teacher in WFSH answers questions beginning with the words How? What? or Why? Through this interest the student gains knowledge that enables him to understand his surroundings. Biology presents a study of life, both plant and animal and enr courages him to understand the living world. Chemistry, in giving a qualitative and quantitative description of his surroundings, presents opportu- nity for scientific methods of thinking and experimenting. He receives further training in the use of scientific methods while attempting to verify basic laws of the universe in the physics lab. ln a modern atmosphere where even headlines emphasize scientific research, this department presents a program to challenge the student to seek further training. LIBRARY Snider Library of WFSH is invaluable to diligent students. Here all find a wealth of old and new mate- rial to supplement their textbooks. ln memory of the former principal of WFSH, the S. H. Rider Memorial Shelf has been established this year. Fifty-five magazines and many books are given each year as gifts by Mrs. C. W. Snider, whose interest in students never falters. N.D.C.C. Maior H. Through such courses as typing, bookkeeping and short- hand, students acquire the skills necessary for success in this field. Mechanical drawing and shop develop a basic interest and ability for careers in architecture, drafting or engineering. Economics and commercial law promote a sense of values in our changing society by offering information about the world of business and finance. While performing duties necessary to the school administration, office practice students experience on-the-job training. Because of the increasing need of industry and business for individuals with special- ized skills, this department emphasizes the fundamentals necessary to obtain good positions. S.E.D.T. Through the Safety Education Drivers' Training courses in WFSH, the student learns to drive in the proper manner. Through the use of a dual control car in which there are a clutch and brake, he puts the principles of sound driving learned in class into action. The dual controls insure safety for passengers in the car and for the beginner. The constant regard for safety instilled in the minds of the trained driver remains with the new driver when he is on the highways by himself. MACK L. KECK, M.S. HADDON F. MALONE, M.S.
